Re: SNESTicle released, with article.

Amazing. It's really fun to see this happen. It's nice to see the "sequel", NESticle was huge deal for me, back when I was first curious about NES development. I have VS2019 installed, and SNESticle builds without any problems. I ran maybe 9 demos, all but one worked. My NSF Player does no...

Re: How to delete / unload sprite? (nes 6502)

The recommended way is to set the Y coordinates to $F0 or above, where the PPU will never reach them.

Re: asm file with a dcm sample?

Using 'ld65 -t nes' has it use its built-in nes.cfg. To use a custom one instead, use 'ld65 -C nes.cfg'. I have added one line to the built-in config to add the SAMPLES segment (I did not test it), save this as 'nes.cfg' (or whatever filename you want) and put it in the same folder as your source fi...

Re: asm file with a dcm sample?

Here are excerpts from my speech synth. The data being input through (speech_lo),y is one byte speed select, next byte sample number. Kinda dumb that I used words for the lookup tables though, could have been like .byte <((voc00-$C000)/$40). You need to write $4010,$4011,$4012,$4013 and $4015. The s...

Re: Is there an assembler that supports unit testing?

cc65 comes with sim65, if that helps. I've never tried to use it, myself.

Re: Need help with hacking Elevator Action

Possible yeah, but probably not easy. Hit detection can be CPU-intensive, so it's likely designed around the cases they needed. Detecting hits of all the enemies bullets against one player, or detecting one player's bullets against all the enemies. Adding in hit detects for all the enemy bullets aga...

Re: Mapper Decap Project

I could send multiple AX5202P, if that's wanted. If I can find my MTPO cart, I could donate an MMC2. I've had the cart for decades, at some point it quit working (despite any contact cleaning). What seems weird is that I know of two other people who have dead Punchout carts. Could be a coincidence,...

Re: MMC1C

I don't remember seeing it myself, I believe kevtris documented that. I'd been to his house around the time he made CopyNES and RE'd a lot of mappers, official or bootleg stuff, he had seen a lot of stuff. Today I asked him about it, he's sure about it existing, was surprised there wasn't a picture ...

Re: My code won't run on PlayChoice10

I seem to remember having to fiddle with it to get it stay on the list after the PC10 called it bad.. I had to change cart slots, maybe. The Playchoice Z80 has some bookkeeping RAM that's backed-up by a "supercapacitor" (instead of a battery), which will maintain it for a short time (like,...

Re: My code won't run on PlayChoice10

It's identical to the NES, except for the palette, and having the Z80 supervisor thing. The games are identical to the NES versions and don't do anything special to avoid the watchdog reset, indeed people run normal NES games using cart adapters without any problems (that I've heard of, anyways). So...

Re: Programming ICs for donor cartridge

1. Try google search for "NES ROM splitter", there are several. I used to use one called ucon64 (did many other things too), if you want a command-line tool. I usually just have my assembler create the PRG file, then I add the NES header afterwards. Or for existing ROMs, I use a hex editor...

Re: My code won't run on PlayChoice10

There is some kind of watchdog reset, though I'm not 100% clear on its operation. It's in the schematic, but it's a chain of stuff spanning multiple pages (and into the Z80 code), I don't want to suss it out. I've seen it happen with Pung by jero32. You'd finish a match in Pung, then it jumps back t...

Thank you so much, brizzo! And everyone else who has helped. I can be excited about using my web browser again, haha. There wasn't much I could do from here, as I only had access to phpBB's admin control panel, and that doesn't allow for as much these days. It used to let you download the database, ...

Re: Project Nested - NES emulator for SNES

I've tested out some games for fun and got some weird results not yet documented to my knowledge. I added those to the spreadsheet, but I found some discrepancies. Defender 2 doesn't look like that when I run it, but if I give it a really high "sprite zero hit offset" it does start to loo...
