For the hell of it I powered both on. I got no picture but I could hear the game running and it sounded like it ran 2X faster.
If I had to guess, the CPU was receiving too many vertical interrupts and the clockrate differences of the CPUs made them out of sync. Wacky.

Here's what I'd do: Rig up a very small Mini-ITX motherboard (or smaller, if you can manage it-- like those ISA cards that contained a tiny Pentium or 486/etc. PC), and power it from the FC supply (you'll need to replace the brick with something with a lot more current, I imagine). Hardwire the DB25...

I've seen major variance between audio and CPU performance on different FOACs that indicates to me there are many kinds. Most of them are shit, though. I really wish something like Kevtris' FPGA was mass produced.

If you do such a thing, may I suggest separating the 6502 and APU clocks so I don't need to hear the Alvin and the Chipmunks remix of the game music in question with an appreciable overclock. :)

The most expensive I've seen them is $45 (in Japan anyway) and they were price gouged. I got one boxed for $35 and a couple others loose with accessories for $30. Just find someone who will make you a good deal and not give you the eBay price. :) Exaggerating a little? $45, price gouged? You can ea...

Fine, call them 1993 Famicoms. New model famicoms. I wish I had one but they cost too much to justify it. Though they look weird with FDS systems. The most expensive I've seen them is $45 (in Japan anyway) and they were price gouged. I got one boxed for $35 and a couple others loose with accessorie...

Well put; HVC101s are harder to find than HVC001s but by no means is either one hard to find... I refrain from calling them "AV Famicoms" when I can since the box doesn't actually say that anywhere on it.. it does advertise having AV, but the name still reads in huge lettering, "FAMIL...

Japan's power grid has 50hz and 60hz segments but the 60 Hz NTSC video standard seems to be universal. Personally I'm in a 50hz area but all Japanese consoles I have purchased in different parts of Japan have had the same US-compatible 60 Hz NTSC output.

Weird. I think the last console that old I saw past 2000 in Toys R Us was a Genesis 3, the one Majesco sold.

Joy-16 Mega Drive 3 Clone Review/Disassembly/Audio Tests

I've put together an extensive review of the "Joy-16 Mega Drive 3" clone. It is a quite accurate Genesis/MegaDrive clone I purchased for the wonderful sum of 500 yen (~$4.25 at the time) and it came with an official Genesis 6-Pak cart, CIB. What a deal. The review features disassembly, hig...

The IC used for the Genesis/MD support is undoubtedly the same as in this clone I recently reviewed. http://epicgaming.us/?p=72 There's some audio and picture comparisons there if you want to get an idea of how well it performs. As for O/J, it has the same switch and it seems to be "Japan/Overs...

Does it have AV out like the NES? Only the last (rare) revision of the Famicom had AV out, IIRC through a connector similar to the one used by the Super NES, N64, and GameCube. The rest were RF-only. I don't get any indication they're rare. I have 3 of them, 1 boxed, 2 loose.. and see them all the ...

How odd. Did you get the same error? I can't think of any fundamental difference between a laptop or desktop LPT port, and my only desktop has no legacy ports except PS/2. So that puts me in a shitty position :(
