Re: Question about black bars, again. . . .

I just debugged an issue with black vertical lines appearing that turned out to be psuedo hires mode being on accidentally. Bsnes, Mesen-S, snes9x, and zsnes do not reproduce this problem, and if it weren't for this post explaining it I might have had to probe the hardware itself: https://forums.nes...

It's not a game, but I'm working on a compiler with dra600n targeting the snes.

Re: Kulor's Guide to Mode 7 Perspective Planes

The roll of 90 is a good way to explain why roll doesn't work - guess you gotta go to Starfox for that. I fixed the figure number.

Re: Kulor's Guide to Mode 7 Perspective Planes

The mystery curve looks a little bit like a negative tangent. When I programmed a raycasting engine I had to do fisheye correction like this tutorial explains: https://permadi.com/1996/05/ray-casting-tutorial-8/ Which involves a cosine. Do you think that the (m7x, m7y) center point will eventually g...

Re: Kulor's Guide to Mode 7 Perspective Planes

Here are some thoughts for now... I prefer talking about the "north" and 'east" sides of the map to "top" and "right" sides because those are unambiguous and always refer to the same geographic directions no matter where the camera is pointing. Why can't roll be ac...

Kulor's Guide to Mode 7 Perspective Planes

I can't see any of the figures, it just has a broken image icon and "Image."

Re: Games with 16x16 background tiles

Something that makes 8x8s harder to use is when you're doing multi-directional scrolling, you must take into account the intersection of the 2 scrolling seams, if you're using a 64x32 tilemap. Why is that harder? Is it not enough to have one subroutine that updates tiles to hide the vertical seam a...

Re: Rough figures for mono, stereo and surround sound?

I think the only games I've ever set up surround sound on were on the DS and that was with only two speakers. This would make a good poll.

Re: Instruction cycle comparison tool

So from playing with this tool, it sounds like the answer that Grog was too lazy to figure out is actually a formula that takes the checkboxes as boolean inputs:

Re: Instruction cycle comparison tool

Good job on this. This will be very useful when I start writing compiler optimization passes. I was going to suggest renaming that leftmost column to "Addressing mode" because there are only three 65x instruction groups, but I see there are things in there like "branch taken" tha...

Re: Window shapes demo

"programattic shape" sounds like software is generating the shape on-the-fly and it's not hard-coded. That would be cool for shapes that change their shape or size over time or in response to in-game events.

Re: Upside down controller

Oh okay I see what you all are saying. When I've just hit zero hit points, doing a soft reset allows me to bypass the msgbox that says no trace of my body was ever found. So those dead bodies pile up and then go and haunt and terrorize the Potos villagers, and on a full moon jump to and infect the r...
