Re: KrzysioTesterEPM240 - the EPM240 CPLD chip tester, the fear of sellers from alieexpress

This was a great read, very awesome ~

I'm having joys of bad CPLDs every once in a while too, though with older stuff. I have found bad IOs but also some damage where programming/verify always fails at same place in addition to chips that just don't detect or get hot (internal shorts).

Re: Help to program 16 bit EPROMs on a 8 bit programmer

Ok, that prevents this idea...

But you can still program the chip one half at a time. Erase turns zeros into ones, and programming operation turn a one back to zero... so you can tie one byte high, while you program the other and do things in two passes.

Re: Help to program 16 bit EPROMs on a 8 bit programmer

Usually there's a byte mode on 16bit EPROMs, that will allow you to read/write everything with only 8 bit databus.

Re: Horizontal line glitch in the lower left corner

You need to feed clock to CPU and PPU through series capacitors instead of direct connection. I made 21 and 26MHz oscillators for PAL and NTSC support on one NES I have and it misbehaved until I had used those capacitors on the clock inputs of both PPU and CPU.

Re: PPU Book

This was a nice read, thänk you very much for making it ~

I have done a burn method to extract silicon too, but I have placed the chip in my fireplace, away from flames. It heats more gradually and more gently, and chips I have extracted have been without defects.

Re: Capturing YM2413 patches from Yamaha PSS-140 for potential use with VRC7

When I was active in MD music stuff a decade ago, I remember there were bigass collections of instrument files for YM2612, extracted from VGMs with a tool which name I currently don't recall. I believe they were by Shiru, who quit the MD scene a while ago and made everything related unavailable from...

Re: Clone cpu's that don't have duty cycles swapped?

Wiki list should be updated then, it says just NP would have that feature but seems NP1 would be it then. NPB is listed as having 21/26MHz (which probably ties to PAL/NTSC too) select in addition to 50/60 select. I am aware of the clock differences etc. My favorite famiclone is a glob top, which has...

Re: Clone cpu's that don't have duty cycles swapped?

I got really excited about the 50/60Hz support on TA-02NP PPU, since I have it and I proceeded to do the necessary mods. The clone I have with that CPU actually connects pins 15,16 and 17 together and runs them to a VCC/GND spot but I separated them all and added a switch to control things individua...

Re: Becoming an FPGA Engineer

You'll probably want to create a dedicated reset signal for your devboard. Many pirate carts use a diode+capacitor on M1 (I think it was that, or maybe it was A0) signal to create it.

Re: Help with CD drive not spinning

I have not seen a drive with actually invisible laser beam on anything modern (1990+), all show a dull red spot visible through a CD's top surface. Perhaps some early drives have deep infrared (or a much narrower spectrum) laser which beam will actually be invisible.
