Re: Up-to-Date NSFE Collection?

Okay. Looking through that collection some more, it's not bad. 1600+ NSFEs ain't nothing to sneeze at, though with over 4400+ NSFs there's still a lot of work to be done (though yeah I'm aware those numbers don't tell the whole story). Unfortunately, it looks like the last new NSFE was added to that...

Up-to-Date NSFE Collection?

Is there any reasonably up-to-date NSFE collection, whether a website or just a big fat zip, somewhere on the internet? Google is failing me. Specific places I've tried looking: - http://slickproductions.org/nsfe.php - This is down and doesn't redirect anywhere (rest in peace disch) (also no I am no...

Re: ca65 C-style macro problems

I know DASM allows you to use square brackets as an equivalent to parentheses (e.g. [[blah+blah]*blah] ). Perhaps ca65 is similarly permissive.

Re: Super Mario Bros PC port demo (1990)

My only thought here is that someone should make a proof of concept demo of Commander Keen on the NES so that things could come full circle.

Re: Have people changed their mind's about Satoru Iwata now?

Espozo, one does not simply gauge public opinion. Just because some people yell loudly about some issue or person in whatever corner of the internet you've nestled yourself in, does not mean that the yelling is indicative of a broader, more general sentiment. Not everybody who has an opinion on a su...

Wait. You didn't like The Guardian Legend?

My mother is going to have a word with you.

Re: How are processors designed today?

I'm going to take a not-so-wild guess that CPU's are now essentially designed by other CPUs. That's one way to put it, yes. Digital hardware design these days is done using hardware description languages (HDLs), like Verilog or VHDL. Using these is like coding in C instead of assembly. You still ne...

Re: 1-Up Polling

The simplest and most general solution I can think of would be to store a variable in RAM containing the next score threshold to cross, and as often as necessary check if the current score is greater than it. If so, give the player the corresponding bonus and update the threshold however you please....

Re: Opinions on my NES style game

Battletoads has slopes and parallax in Level 4. The bg/fg clash is noticeable, but not too much of an issue (i.e. I've never heard anybody complain about it).

Re: Editroid help needed

IIRC, you have to press Ctrl or something while clicking in the window for 16x16 tiles. It's been a while since I've used Editroid, so my memory is a bit rusty. For future reference, I suggest that you ask at the Metroid Construction forums. They have some more experienced hackers over there. Plus, ...

I almost hate to post my version of the map. I really love to see especially how people piece together the VOID ZONE. Well, if you want an interesting interpretation of that zone, here's an entirely verticalized map, and here's and attempt to tessellate that horizontally . Overlapping screens quick...

Re: Lizard

This is a very good game. I am especially impressed at how the PC version has the sound effects cut out the music, and how it seems to use the same OAM cycling code (as seen when frogs overlap). For inquiring minds, I've made screenshot maps of the "front" and "back" sides of the...

Re: Mockups of games from other platforms

Here's an update on my Jetpack mockup from earlier:
Image

- Redone door, 1-up, font
- Some new tiles (gold bricks, teleporters, etc.)
- The drop shadows have been, uh, dropped.

I feel that the destructible crates could use some work.
