PPU register getting changed behind the scene?
I am working on a side scroller that is supposed to scroll from right to left. I want to start the display from the nametable-2 (i.e. nametable on the right). Firstly, I am setting the last 2 bits of PPUCTRL to "01" so that second nametable is shown when the game starts. After this: 1) Nam...

Re: Glitch help
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G43rWW0kRJw With attribute writing minus nametable writing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoTIABWVEo0 The other nametable flashes on and off while it scrolls right. No glitches scrolling left. Here's what is seemingly ruled out: - Fat NMI. Even without the nametable u...

only Horizontal and only vertical scrolling in 1 game?
I am working on a small project with 5 levels. 3 of them require bidirectional horizontal scrolling and 1 require bidirectional vertical scroll. I think scrolling depends on "mirroring" of the cart and that remains same throughout the execution of an nes program(please correct me if I am n...

74HC04 is an inverter, used to buffer the controller signals. Unless you repair pin 4 with solder, you might find that player 2 doesn't work or that extension controllers (Zapper, Power Pad) don't work. isn't that u8? i'm pretty sure pin 4 on u9 is the slave cic clock signal and you might want to r...

Re: Old Asian NES console LED keeps blinking.
What could be the actual problem: Dirty connectors, regional lockout or something else??? If the cartridges that came with the NES (if any) work, or if you can see the game trying to start before it gets reset, then you have a regional lockout problem. This can be worked around: open the NES with a...

What are you talking about? There is no such thing as an Asian NES, that would be a famicom and American cartridges would not even fit in them since the cartridge connector is larger. That is indeed an NES! I have 2 consoles. I got one from the US pretty recently. and the one I am talking about is ...

Learning the NES??
I know its too early for me to ask this question on this forum coz I am still a newbie w.r.t. a lot of things related to NES. How can one justify learning to program for the NES and doing stuff related to NES in an age when the video game and the computer industry have reached so far. Its particular...

Old Asian NES console LED keeps blinking.
Hi, I tried testing a few cartridges on a very old Asian NES console(original). These cartridges work ok on my NTSC NES but not working on the asian console. All I get to see is the blinking LED of the console. Before I bought this console it was fitted in an arcade box. The age of this console shou...

Sorry I couldn't know. In fact porting the powerpak to my country plus import taxes also summed up to $200, and that 2 times (for NES and SNES) but if that's too much I understand. Especially if you have a Famicom or Famiclone that would require an 72 -> 60 pin adapter for the Power Pak to work. Fo...
