Thanks for the compliments guys, really appreciate that :D Yeah, the background would be transparent, so black, white and grey are my 3 colours. I think i'm getting the way in which they can be constructed. If he's within the rules, I'll probably develop it a bit, do a little sprite sheet for him to...

Hello again guys, so i was trying to make an experimental sprite for my main character. He's going to be a film noir character. No idea if this is the style i want to work with yet, but i quite like his vibe. Just wanted to start by trying something simple. I'm not sure if i've got the limitations c...

It's cool man, i like the way you think. At this stage the best thing i can have is a stringent set of limitations to work with, and from there, try and create something. If that seems good then maybe i can develop it, but it seems like starting very simple is the best way for me to get a grip on al...

This is great and seriously helpful, thankyou! I definitely wouldn't want to try and break rules like this, so all good. What i do like the idea of doing is creating an atmospheric background that a cool looking sprite can explore; couple that with an atmospheric soundtrack and that's where the vibe...

Haha, that definitely doesn't make sense to me! You have to remember man, i can barely handle HTML etc, i'm a good artist and musician, but in no way a programmer! But i'm seriously grateful for you to show me this stuff. Honestly it's a pleasure learning from you guys. Not to go too much off topic,...

This is excellent food for thought, thanks dude :D You hit a number of nails on the head there too. Firstly, i'm absolutely up for making a short game so no worries there. I love the idea of a very short, but hopefully challenging, game. And i'm happy to avoid huge characters and lots of animation. ...

Thanks guys, this is such great knowledge :D Gremlins 2, Kirby and Mario 3 are all very advanced games aren't they? So i'm guessing in my situation it would be best to stay away from trying to attempt anything like this... If that is the case, another question i have for you guys is, if i'm to look ...

Awesome, thanks! I'm going to get on the case with some basic sprite work this week, so this helps a lot, will check it out now :) I did have a random question regarding sprites. In the other thread someone mentioned Gremlins 2. I checked that out on YouTube, along with Batman as well, and noticed t...

Same deal. Splashes of color is easier because you've got four palettes. If you'll use three colors (like blue, dark blue, and black) everywhere, then you have one extra color four times for the background. Sprites have fewer colors, but I'm sure it will be no issue at all for your game. That's goo...

Color palette will be the least of your worries; the NES can do four grays just fine. Lol, well, it won't be strictly greyscale, but a lot of it will be film noir esque, with splashes of colour. A bit like this kind of vibe - http://www.kuifilms.com/hrp/story/labyrinth.jpg I think it should make fo...

Most games based on film licences sucked in the '80s and '90s (and that's probably still the case today but I don't follow today's games). So does this mean the game has to mimic film based games from the late 80s - early 90s and suck intentionally ? Of course there was Batman which was okay but th...
