Oh, lol. (Thanks for pointing out the other two though.)

Re: PowerPak Namco 163 mapper: CHR-RAM and sample length fix

My report? Did I do some research on this years ago and forget?

Re: PowerPak Namco 163 mapper: CHR-RAM and sample length fix

Looks like it doesn't support the CHR-ROM as Nametable feature on the N163 properly, as they are used on Mindseeker's opening screens extensively. Not sure if any other N163 games used this feature? Anyway, that tells me what needs fixing for that. Otherwise the saving part I think needs to be addre...

Re: PowerPak MMC3 jitter fix for loopy's mapper

I'm glad someone picked up the torch. It's been on my "fix this someday" list for years now :P Thanks for providing the source to continue from! While you're here, there were a few mappers in your mapper pack that weren't present in your source pack. Do you still have any of these sources...

Re: PowerPak Namco 163 mapper: CHR-RAM and sample length fix

A harder problem to solve with this mapper is readable mapper-internal RAM, and then also battery saving its 128 bytes. According to this thread the relevant games are: Battle Fleet Famista '90 Kaijuu Monogatari Mindseeker Mindseeker boots with messed up graphics. The others seem playable, but I hav...

PowerPak Namco 163 mapper: CHR-RAM and sample length fix

Was looking at this one because Quantum was asking if it could support large CHR-RAM. The CHR-RAM ended up being a tinychange to the verilog, now that I have a loader stub that can read the iNES 2 header. While I was testing this I noticed Rolling Thunder's bass sounded wrong... and it turned out th...

Re: PowerPak MMC3 jitter fix for loopy's mapper

Alright! MC-ACC seems to be working? If I put submapper 3 on Incredible Crash Dummies or Mickey's Safari in Letterland they both look very solid! loopy_mmc3_fix13.zip Otherwise I switched the WRAM disable flag to actually disable writes, and instead the WRAM will be pre-filled with high-byte-of-addr...

Re: PowerPak MMC3 jitter fix for loopy's mapper

Oh! Right, my patch just used $FF as a blanket value. I guess I had analyzed the nature of the bug and found that $FF was suitable and simpler. I thought I had filled everything with the high byte of it's address (i.e. the most likely open bus value, barring a page cross?), but I guess not: FFC0 [1F...

Re: PowerPak MMC3 jitter fix for loopy's mapper

The PowerPak has pull-up resistors on the data bus for its FPGA (which is 5V tolerant but can't drive pins above 2.5V). Which means that devices that care about open bus not being $FF (such as Paperboy's joypad-reading code) require intervention. Ohhh so it's simulating one specific case of the ope...

Re: PowerPak MMC3 jitter fix for loopy's mapper

Okay one more. Maybe this is the last last one. ;) loopy_mmc3_fix12.zip I thought I might as well test the PRG-RAM enable capability, since we had a known example of Low G Man that needs open bus to run correctly. (It now works without having to patch the ROM, just have to use an iNES 2 header with ...

Re: PowerPak MMC3 jitter fix for loopy's mapper

Okay, this is probably my final revision of the MMC3 mapper. Just put MAP04.MAP in your POWERPAK folder. loopy_mmc3_fix11.zip This is the same FPGA program as 10b but I've written a new loader stub for it. The stub provides a simple loading progress bar, allows iNES 2 CHR-RAM size, as well as iNES 2...

Re: Backdrop Color change?

Games are likely to copy the CGRAM data from a contiguous block in WRAM. If CGRAM can't be frozen, try searching for that string of bytes in CGRAM in WRAM, and maybe you can figure out where the block is copied from, and then you can freeze it there? If unlucky, the game will update it some other wa...

PowerPak MAPA1.MAP iNES 161 Hanjuku Hero fix

So, this mapper is in the official 1.34 mapper set, but it doesn't actually work. Its loader appears to be written for an earlier version of the PowerPak BIOS and was never updated. It's the oldest file in the set with a date of 2007-02-24. Anyway, very easy to fix. The loader stub is of the same fo...

Re: simple dev cart for Famicom?

The mod is for the FDS disk drive (to make it possible to write the whole disk). If you're using the FDSStick as a replacement for the drive (i.e. just FDSStick + Ram Adapter), you don't need to mod your drive. If you want to use it to make copies of disks (FDSStick + disk drive), you might need the...
