Re: Free/Best video capture software

OBS can do everything, including display a live capture, but it's not "simple", and it's full of "advanced features". It's the program a Twitch streamer would use to broadcast or record their game. Note that depending on your capture device, there may be latency, making capture u...

Re: Simulating 75% and 87.5% pulse wave in MIDI

It's also useful for chiptunes on a sound chip with only 50% square waves, like a Master System.

Re: Initial state of PRGbanks with MMC1?

Using INC means you don't need to set register A, saving 2 bytes.

Re: Initial state of PRGbanks with MMC1?

INC works here because the byte in ROM at FFFC is "F4", or the low byte of the reset vector (FFF4). Because the high bit (80) is set, it's treated as a mapper reset. --- Aside Note (Double writes to MMC1 from Read-Modify-Write instructions) Use care when doing Read-Modify-Write instruction...

Re: Initial state of PRGbanks with MMC1?

I have personally observed one MMC1 initialization state: * First 16K of PRG-ROM into 8000, Last 16K into C000 * First 8K of CHR-ROM into CHR 0000 * Single Screen Mirroring There's a neat story behind this one. It involved a platoon WR speedrun attempt, and the game booting straight to a glitched en...

Re: What are some of the best, simplest web hosts these days?

Github Pages is a decent host for static websites. You can even point a registered domain name there using a CNAME file. In terms of performance, it's through the roof. You get CDNs serving everything. Strictly static though. And all uploads happen via Git rather than FTP or SFTP. And your web repos...

Paint Program screenshot in Dragon Warrior 3 Manual

In a map that appears in the Dragon Warrior 3 Manual, some UI elements from an old Japanese paint program appear at the bottom, having accidentally not been cut out of the image. dw3_manual_paint_program.jpg I wonder if anyone has any idea what program that could have been, or even what kind of comp...

Re: Name of this game?

Every owner of a NES has inserted a game then had it fail to boot properly due to the cartridge not having a solid connection. Does this mean that a cartridge with this kind of protection would damage a console if it was powered on but in a not-yet booted state? Or even if you powered it on while ho...

Maybe check for continuity between the CPU IRQ pin and the cartridge slot's IRQ pin?

Animations (such as 'new post glow') eat up CPU/GPU resources

I just measured that the animations on icons, such as the glow to indicate "new post in the thread", are eating up a significant amount of CPU or GPU time. Is there any way to remove these from the board?

GIF animations (such as the smilies) use much lower resources, so they're okay.

Re: More NSF Requests

I just noticed that I seem to have a bad copy of "Deja Vu" NSF, where the first triangle waves notes of each song are missing. This doesn't happen in-game. Was this ever fixed by somebody? Edit: Found the post by Drag which contains the fixed NSF files. Yes, there is a "Search Topic&q...

Re: Who else plays Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

I play Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, where opponents occasionally show up after waiting more than 10 minutes. Really fun game if they do show up though, I main April O Neil.
