Paint Program screenshot in Dragon Warrior 3 Manual

In a map that appears in the Dragon Warrior 3 Manual, some UI elements from an old Japanese paint program appear at the bottom, having accidentally not been cut out of the image. dw3_manual_paint_program.jpg I wonder if anyone has any idea what program that could have been, or even what kind of comp...

Re: Name of this game?

Every owner of a NES has inserted a game then had it fail to boot properly due to the cartridge not having a solid connection. Does this mean that a cartridge with this kind of protection would damage a console if it was powered on but in a not-yet booted state? Or even if you powered it on while ho...

Re: SMB1 Working but not SMB3

Maybe check for continuity between the CPU IRQ pin and the cartridge slot's IRQ pin?

Re: Name of this game?

Did Mapper 79 have that protection, or was it just Mapper 133?

Animations (such as 'new post glow') eat up CPU/GPU resources

I just measured that the animations on icons, such as the glow to indicate "new post in the thread", are eating up a significant amount of CPU or GPU time. Is there any way to remove these from the board?

GIF animations (such as the smilies) use much lower resources, so they're okay.

Re: More NSF Requests

I just noticed that I seem to have a bad copy of "Deja Vu" NSF, where the first triangle waves notes of each song are missing. This doesn't happen in-game. Was this ever fixed by somebody? Edit: Found the post by Drag which contains the fixed NSF files. Yes, there is a "Search Topic&q...

I play Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, where opponents occasionally show up after waiting more than 10 minutes. Really fun game if they do show up though, I main April O Neil.

Re: Name of this game?

US version of Master Chu is Mapper 11, Taiwanese version is either Mapper 133, or Mapper 79, same program works on both boards. That board seems to be Mapper 79, not 133. But if you really wanted to mapper-hack a game to work on Mapper 79, I guess you could. To hack a CNROM game, you'd change the wr...

Re: Name of this game?

The mapper is not CNROM.
My comment was about how the actual requirements of the game (32K PRG, 32K CHR, CHR switched in 8K banks) could have worked as a CNROM game.
But this game is not compatible with CNROM as written.

Re: Name of this game?

Man, this game has such a weird mapper for what is basically a CNROM game. The Mapper 11 version was much simpler.

I've never seen a mapper with "Analog Feedback Bits" that must be written correctly or the mapper chip runs hot.

Re: Name of this game?

It's "Master Chu and the Drunkard Hu" by Joy Van (or Sachen), the Taiwanese title is "Dao Shuai".

Re: VT03 famiclone that takes normal carts?

All of the VTs have swapped duty cycles. Any romhack that would target a real VT chip to try to enhance a game must swap the duty cycles in the music and sound effects. I wonder if we need a NES header flag for rom hackers that want the easy way out, an emulator that will emulate the VTxx, but not s...

Re: VT03 famiclone that takes normal carts?

I probably misread your post then... I thought you claimed that the VTxx preceeded software emulation of the NES.
