Re: Building a Video-DAC
since I socketed pretty much everything and made the connections interchangeble I was able to reverse the whole mod in less than a minute. I'll have to record some footage of what it looks like with the dac-ic and how it looks with the diy-dac. I also reversed the lsb/msb-order but the colors were a...

Re: Building a Video-DAC
Amazing what you know about all this stuff  Yes, the picture is absolutely different from what I've seen from the stock-hardware. I also notice a color-shift but I can't really tell what color it has shiftet to--- it highly depends on what is on the screen. The palette-test-program looks beau...

Re: Building a Video-DAC
Guys, I'm almost there... Thanks for all the input so far! I used 2x LS74HC04N to invert all the signals and it worked right away. I was stupid enough to use the suggested 1.4K for 5V without taking into consideration that my levels were 3.6V only - not a big deal, I used a 5K pot to adjust the leve...

Re: Building a Video-DAC
@lidnariq I finally built the circuit and tested it. I have something on the screen.... at least when I turn the brightness up real hard but I blame that on the ths-based pce-amp I used to test it. Besides from that the picture is inverted. Changing the order from LSB to MSB doesn't invert it back t...

Re: Building a Video-DAC
Great input, thanks!
I think that'll make a good start, I'll report back when I get the chance to build and test the circuit and report back how it went.
Thanks again!!!

Building a Video-DAC
I want to rebuild the DAC inside an Amstrad GX4000 videogame. The conversion in this system happens inside an IC which adds a noticable amout of blurriness to the picture so I'd like to replace the IC with an R2R-ladder. It's a 4-Bit-DAC, the video signals for Red, Green and Blue have 4 signal-lines...

Re: Legible SNES Schematics
I'll update my scans here from now on:

just stripped an SNSP-1CHIP-02
If anybody has a mainboard to give away for this purpose please contact me, thanks!

Re: Legible SNES Schematics
Ok, thank you! I only checked those leading to u14 pins 1-5 and the schematic also shows that they lead nowhere... If you have Photoshop the easiest way to check the leads is just enabling or disabling the top layer which is mirrored to fit the bottom layer. So, I'm no expert but I'd love to know if...

Re: Legible SNES Schematics
I honestly don't know and I always thought it was 2-layers only. My technical background is limited to soldering and modding consoles. Could you please mark those vias and post a picture? Thanks! edit: After I reviewed my scan I looked into "snes_schematic_color.pdf" and U14 Pins 1-5 are u...

Re: Legible SNES Schematics
In the process of figuring out why the 2PPU-model of the snes has a blurry picture I've startet to sand mainboards and make hi-res scans of the pcb. The pal-mainboards seem to be quite a bit different from the ntsc counterparts. Here's what I have until now, I'll be happy to share any new scans if y...

Re: Patching rom-palettes for RC2C03B PPU
Debugging in No$Nes is surely cool if you have the background knowledge - for me, I really don't know what and how and where I do stuff... I'm trying a different approach, with some success. I'm using Tile Layer Pro to get an idea where to look for. e.g. I used Mario Bros and found the Mario/Luigi S...

Re: Patching rom-palettes for RC2C03B PPU
The basic technique for making palette hacks begins by finding everything that writes palettes. Start a debugging emulator.... I downloaded No$Nes and ran Super Mario Bros. I get the idea but I'm afraid my knowledge about the system is far too limited to get this done. Anyways, that was rea...

Re: Patching rom-palettes for RC2C03B PPU
Yes, I got it sorted out now. Thanks guys.
I wanna give 'use different color numbers' a try.
Any recommendations for a tool for this task?
Thanks again!

Some brainstorming about palettes
I did some research but since I'm not familiar with hardware programming or the nes system's internals I'll give it a go and just repeat what I've learned. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The complete palette within a ppu consists of 4*16 colors. Colors have addresses like this: 00-0F 10-1F 20-2F 30...
