When bypassing the regulator, voltage spikes could damage the console. Even battery powered stuff normally use a regulator.

Maybe try using a switching/buck converter instead of the 7805.

For my part I know I will continue to use winamp for a good while still. Until I feel a good reason to switch to another player.

I have been using winamp classic for like 15 years. Still has the original skin too.

Same thing goes for Guerrilla war. The music is so much better on the NES version that I prefer it to the arcade version.
