Re: 512KB mapper 7 issue

Well I wonder what could be wrong? It’s not a complicated mapper or anything. You have all the SRAM an emulator could expect. Seems likely there should be a simple bug fix if the problem is the ROM as it appears. Our first clue is that there are no sprites. That is strange. Maybe it doesn’t wait pro...

Re: Old Famiclone poor compatibility - what could be the cause?

Since you have a scope, you might want to look at each of the CPU-related signals in the cartridge connector with a crashy game running. Look for how low the lows are and how high the highs are. Look if there are any excessive rise or fall times. Check the delay between M2 and /ROMSEL. Just general ...

Re: 512KB mapper 7 issue

Great idea lidnariq. I didn’t even think about that with my test program suggestion either. There would have been a bus conflict for all but 1/256 writes to $8000…

Probably want that inverter anyway just to be safe.

Re: 512KB mapper 7 issue

Boy I don’t know, it does look like you added bit 3 of the register correctly in the schematic Not sure what equipment you have, but here is what I would do. Write a very simple program that writes an incrementing value to $8000, infinite loop. This will need to be copied in the ROM each 32k so your...

Re: Old Famiclone poor compatibility - what could be the cause?

There is nothing really in common with those games you mention. It sounds kind of like a power supply problem. Have you checked the internal 5V rail to make sure it is and remains 5 Volts? Especially when you get it into that crashed mode where reset doesn’t work. Be sure to monitor the voltage when...

Re: Do you miss any NES-related software on Windows?

You could make a desktop/offline version of NEScartdb. I know you said windows but that would also be a really cool offline phone app. So many times I was at thrift shops and I see NES carts but the website is down and I can’t check it. This is something that can work very well offline and not depen...

Re: Do you miss any NES-related software on Windows?

How about adding VT03 support in Mesen or FCEUx?

Re: Do you miss any NES-related software on Windows?

Does it have to be windows? There is lots of existing windows stuff that could be ported to Mac.

Re: Name of this game?

Won’t that just burn out the latch chips in the cartridge? It seems it just connects the conflicting outputs of the latches together in your drawing. When the latches burn out, everything should be fine/unprotected as long as the 7805 in the console didn’t burn out?

Re: SMB1 Working but not SMB3

Also, I believe /IRQ should be always high when you turn on the NES with no cartridge inserted, or when running SMB1. If you don’t see 5V, you may be missing a resistor from /IRQ to 5V, or may have the incorrect resistor, etc. You can safely add a 10k resistor from /IRQ to 5V at the cartridge connec...

Re: SMB1 Working but not SMB3

The only things I can think of:

- Dirty connector/games
- problem with /IRQ signal. The older games might not enable IRQ. This signal may need a pull-up resistor or something.

Re: completing iNES mappers

I made my own reset based carts years ago. I also made carts with dip switches. The reset based ones just eliminate the physical switches but have the same function. These carts can have any base mapper. I was collecting different mapper carts and making the applicable games selectable this way. I d...
