Re: Contributing to nescartdb?

The nescartdb.com mirror is currently just read-only; the entire site was been built from scratch based on a scrape of the original, so nothing related to the old submission system is present in it. We definitely want to accept submissions, but it's going to take brizzo spending time developing a ne...

Re: ca65 Indirect Indexed labels

Some mappers do boot up with the highest bank in an unknown state. This is actually a significant problem and may have even prevented such games from working reliably on the original system. MMC1 is the main example of this. Unfortunately, just checking the vectors isn't sufficient even in this case...

Re: ca65 Indirect Indexed labels

This is really cool! Making a menu from scratch is something I'd love to do at some point and I think it's great someone else is working on this, too. So far, I've been hacking the original menu software to go along with a hardware mod we've been developing that improves the console's compatibility ...

Re: EPSG for NES and Famicom (expansion sound module)

Welcome! Please don't double-post requests like this, though; once is enough. What you're asking is nontrivial and possibly infeasible. The NES PPU outputs composite video; it's generated this way and there is no higher-quality RGB signal to work with. To produce RGB or HDMI output, NESRGB and Hi-De...

Re: ca65 Indirect Indexed labels

What are you doing with the FamicomBox? I've been making changes to the menu software, as well. Definitely interested in whatever people are doing with it.

Re: Dual D-Pad Controls (and a minor rant)

I'm not aware of any controller specifically for the NES or Famicom that has two D-pads. The Virtual Boy controller is the closest thing and has a compatible protocol. There is no limit on the number of buttons that can be read by the game. The console provides a simple protocol, where up to 3 bits ...

Re: Trying to figure out which RGB palette is canonical

Yes. The first 1 to 2 million frontloading NES consoles used 2C02E. The rest used 2C02G.

Re: Kulor's Guide to Mode 7 Perspective Planes

I've noticed that happens with all my posts on mobile. If you try reading it on a PC, the images should be there. I'm not sure why it does that, phpBB bug of some sort? Brizzo's identified the issue as being related to http vs https. We're using https here, and browsers shouldn't (and Chrome doesn'...

FYI, I created this thread for discussion of broken image links. Please keep such posts there to avoid distracting from this awesome thread.

Really cool work here!

Some images are broken in Chrome, but not Firefox

Some images will display in Firefox, but not Chromium-based browsers. It doesn't seem to be related to the way the image is specified (there are at least 3 ways to use the img tag that I know of), so I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm making this thread for the issue to contain all the broken-image...

Re: Kulor's Guide to Mode 7 Perspective Planes

Wow! I haven't read all of this yet, but it looks fantastic and I'm excited to dig in. Thanks so much for writing all this up.

FYI, the images work fine for me, even on mobile (Firefox).

Talking about the console war? That's fine. If you start waging it and this thread becomes a drama-filled mess, that's not so fine. Keep it friendly.

Re: Does anyone take on commissions for nes games

What kinds of changes are we talking? It'd be helpful to know the scope of the project - the number and complexity of the desired changes. That might help with figuring out however much it might cost. If the project is quick and easy, someone might even do it for free, but if it's going to be long a...

Re: Looking for NES emulator with custom break/log

I asked Sour about this and he thinks this could be done in Mesen with Lua scripting, if you wanted to go that route.
