Re: ca65 Indirect Indexed labels

What are you doing with the FamicomBox? I've been making changes to the menu software, as well. Definitely interested in whatever people are doing with it.

Re: Dual D-Pad Controls (and a minor rant)

I'm not aware of any controller specifically for the NES or Famicom that has two D-pads. The Virtual Boy controller is the closest thing and has a compatible protocol. There is no limit on the number of buttons that can be read by the game. The console provides a simple protocol, where up to 3 bits ...

Re: Trying to figure out which RGB palette is canonical

Yes. The first 1 to 2 million frontloading NES consoles used 2C02E. The rest used 2C02G.

Re: Kulor's Guide to Mode 7 Perspective Planes

I've noticed that happens with all my posts on mobile. If you try reading it on a PC, the images should be there. I'm not sure why it does that, phpBB bug of some sort? Brizzo's identified the issue as being related to http vs https. We're using https here, and browsers shouldn't (and Chrome doesn'...

Re: Kulor's Guide to Mode 7 Perspective Planes

FYI, I created this thread for discussion of broken image links. Please keep such posts there to avoid distracting from this awesome thread.

Really cool work here!

Some images are broken in Chrome, but not Firefox

Some images will display in Firefox, but not Chromium-based browsers. It doesn't seem to be related to the way the image is specified (there are at least 3 ways to use the img tag that I know of), so I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm making this thread for the issue to contain all the broken-image...

Re: Kulor's Guide to Mode 7 Perspective Planes

Wow! I haven't read all of this yet, but it looks fantastic and I'm excited to dig in. Thanks so much for writing all this up.

FYI, the images work fine for me, even on mobile (Firefox).

Talking about the console war? That's fine. If you start waging it and this thread becomes a drama-filled mess, that's not so fine. Keep it friendly.

Re: Does anyone take on commissions for nes games

What kinds of changes are we talking? It'd be helpful to know the scope of the project - the number and complexity of the desired changes. That might help with figuring out however much it might cost. If the project is quick and easy, someone might even do it for free, but if it's going to be long a...

I asked Sour about this and he thinks this could be done in Mesen with Lua scripting, if you wanted to go that route.

Re: Famicombox Ice Hockey and Volleyball

Regarding the new releases: - Punch-Out!! is based on Punch-Out!! (USA) (the Mr. Dream version), with the only differences being in the Nintendo header. The PRG and CHR checksums have been filled in with correct values, and the header validation byte has been updated to match. - 1943 is based on 194...

Re: Sprite per scanline question

Each scanline is processed independently, and while a particular sprite may be skipped on one scanline because there are 8 higher-priority sprites on that scanline, it may be drawn on some other scanline where that's not the case. Drawing an 8x8 sprite tile is not all-or-nothing.

Re: Famicombox Ice Hockey and Volleyball

Punch-Out!! and 1943 have been released. 1943 has turned out to be pretty interesting. The game is essentially unchanged; there are just header differences, intended to make the title show up correctly. The cartridge that was dumped had no nametable setting at all; both the H and V pads were unconne...

Re: Games with black bars on top and bottom

Have you reported this bug? The old Everdrive doesn't seem to get new updates anymore, but the Everdrive Pro may. I haven't, but the Everdrive isn't the only thing I've seen misbehave on rev A consoles. Two other modern games I've tried on it have had similar issues. One uses CHR-RAM and shows bad ...
