Re: LASEReyes
I realized that I have an extra color for the bg for the cemetery. Since I need as much gradient as possible on the borders, and I need both brown and green to make trees and bushes (more on that soon) I went with something inbetween: lasereyes_field_cemetery2.png Edit: I think this is going along n...

Re: Desired Possible Inventions
As a guy who hates body hair, I've always wanted an easy way to get rid of it, then a few years ago I found out about at-home laser/IPL devices. So my wish came true. Edit: Maybe this thing could kill mosquitoes? I once had an ant crawl on my arm and accidentally zapped it, but I'm not sure what kil...

Re: LASEReyes
I'm just about done with this valley tileset. lasereyes_field_valley_mockup.png Though this cliff border uses more tiles than the wall border, it shares tiles with the inside walls. Edit: Woohoo! This tileset will work nicely as a palette swap for a haunted night valley stage: boundaryvalleynight.pn...

I'm just chiming in to attest to za909's talent. Here are some samples of his work:

I can't find any Nova the Squirrel playlists or videos without ads.
Edit: Didn't see that Nova the Squirrel link.

Re: LASEReyes
I didn't like the way the vertical border didn't match the horizontal border (and pretty much all the corners), so here's an update (right side):
Edit: Maybe I should get rid of the second-to-last column of brown pixels?
What do you think?Edit: Maybe I should get rid of the second-to-last column of brown pixels?

Re: LASEReyes
Omg I'm so stupid. I'm so stupid! I thought about how the laser would obstruct the bots' bodies when they're looking down: bgtest_terrain.png Everyone's distinct laser color would differentiate each bot and player! On team battles, I can just make teammates share the same color laser (friendly fire...

Re: LASEReyes
I decided to make my Flybot's saucer base spin: bot_saucer.gif So far this is the only animated idle sprite. The different feet are well distinguishable, but the helmets with just a few pixels' difference would not be. I was thinking of having both different helmets and different legs (and even have...

Re: LASEReyes
Very excellent! I'm a huge fan of the minotaur. :D Oh yeah, that's what they're called! I was searching 'demon bull' when trying to find reference images. The four CPU dudes look like hard to tell apart when in action, their colors are too close. If it matters that is, the player may not care...

Re: LASEReyes
I decided to see what characters I could make with the sprite palette I had: https://forums.nesdev.org/download/file.php?id=22679 Here's what I came up with: characters.png Some characters use two subpalettes, and some use one, but none use more than that. Best of all, I didn't even use the third su...

Re: LASEReyes
Won't this effect ever have to overlap walls, lasers an other things also using the background? I imagine it working like Bomberman, where the explosion is raycasted and just simply stops when it encounters something it can't eliminate. Yes, I pretty much just based all my bomb ideas off Bomberman....

Re: LASEReyes
I didn't like how the bomb explosion looked, so I redid it: Old - 48 tiles: https://forums.nesdev.org/download/file.php?id=22752 New - 23 tiles (including bomb): bomb.gif This is supposed to use bg tiles, it switches from the first subpalette (gray) to the second (red), then back to the first: https...

Re: LASEReyes
Next step is to reintroduce the laser for my new setup: Using background tiles for the laser poses a small issue when the laser collides with blocks: lasereyes_laser0.png The laser can't overlap, so it has to just stop where it meets a wall. So what I've decided to do was add an animated 'spark' or ...

Re: LASEReyes
Not a big update, but I finally implemented the current player sprites and blocks into GMStudio (everything before was either GM5.0 or mockups). https://i.imgur.com/Vghvol0.png Here's a little interactive test demo I set up: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OIf66R-9_vPaXLXmWfDl7cnyiQ_z2diM/view?usp=...
