I have a Super NES and Kirby Super Star but lack appropriate capture equipment. My Philips DVD recorder works well with my NES, but with my Super NES, color cuts in and out.

... would be every 10 seconds. Less annoying than tearing. That's what my DVD recorder does, with its full frame buffer. It needs the frame buffer for MPEG-2 compression anyway, but it does add lag. And unless the upscaler runs 480i in an all-bob mode, it'll need a full frame buffer in order to weave ...

Re: Revisiting the quest for the most accurate NES palette:
At what quality on the DVD recorder? DVD recorders have 704-pixel* modes and 352-pixel modes. The pixel counts refer to luma; chroma is half as fine. So long as there are at least 280 chroma pixels across, which the 704-pixel mode has, it should be able to cover the entire bandwidth of the NES's ...

Reportedly the PPU2v1 puts out an even more nonstandard* signal than the more common PPU2v3, and the DVD recorder might be confusing the nonstandard ...

It might depend on the make and model, but mine (a Philips DVDR3505) happens to work. I do have to split fields in the result after I have ripped it. Please see my previous posts about DVD recorder.

On my Magnavox CRT SDTV, I do get a noticeably brighter picture with composite out than with RF out. I noticed this when I decided to use RF out when recording composite with my DVD recorder to prevent lag during gameplay

Another device records GameCube fine (because it's 480i) but says "recording failed" for NES. As for "having the capture card do the deinterlacing ...

I paid extra for my DVD recorder because it had an ATSC tuner. Clones may have the DA15 expansion connector, allowing use of an external alphabetic ...

So assuming we don't want to rely on Nintendo's emulators, the first step is to understand exactly how the 5-bit ...
