ah yes, that was me! Yeah, for making an NSFE, I often look to see if there is an existing playthrough of the game. Most of the time though I just wind up playing through a game anyways. Although this is usually pretty easy to figure out, a runthrough may not show secret / bonus areas, game overs, l...

Absolutely, grab yourself notsofatso and you're good to go in winamp. I believe there are a couple other players that support NSFE as well. There is the NSFE archive here - http://slickproductions.org/nsfe.php but it hasn't been updated in a while and I've tagged a bunch of stuff since then. You'll ...

I believe there is an error with track 3 of Vs Excitebike (the one with 23 tracks). It is supposed to loop. In notsofatso, it freezes at the end. In other players I've tried it won't freeze, but it'll cut off anyways. To find the track in-game, it is the 'Track Edit' tune, found after selecting the ...

Regarding the Japanese Maniac Mansion from before, there is an in-game sound test. I seem to recall there being some pain in putting it together, not sure if accessing the sound test would help. It took me a couple tries of following these instructions, but it works. :) http://www.gamefaqs.com/conso...

For those who use notsofatso or rockbox, I tagged an NSFE for Erik the Viking.
It's an ace soundtrack!

There seems to be an error with the Kouryuu Densetsu Villgust Gaiden nsf (aka Armed Dragon etc...). In track 1 around 15 seconds in, track 2 around 30 seconds in, and throughout tracks 7, 8 and 9, there are these weird arpeggio effects that aren't supposed to be there. Sounds like they all happen in...

OSV Interview with Neil Baldwin
Audin, or "Akumu" recently interviewed Mr. Baldwin: http://www.originalsoundversion.com/?p=5559 After dutycyclegenerator and the #nesdev chat I wasn't sure how much more ground could be covered, but I feel like his history and perspective is captured here very well, and in a way that isn't...

Although I'm guilty of being one of the people who'd likely prefer a mouse and keyboard set-up, I've heard many others wish for an LSDJ equivalent NES tracker. People will be interested, there is no doubt about that! I also have an idea that I think would be pretty awesome for a live play mode. It'd...

Howdy goto80! :) In addition to the great suggestions from tepple's list, you may be interested in The Immortal by Rob Hubbard. It's the only classic NES soundtrack I know of that uses a tiny looped sample to create a sustaining melodic pitch. It creates a deep saw or pulse-like sounding bass line. ...
