Don't destroy an original cartridge of Tales of Phantasia ! They're not common enough to be worth destroying just so that you can play the translated version on your SNES. Use a Flashcart instead ! Also an original cartridge of Tales of Phantasia is probably as expensive if not even more expensive ...

So to wrap things up: I cleaned the solder mask from the PCB's extra traces and soldered in the 1Mb SRAM with no special trace cutting or rewiring and all is working fine.
