Re: What's Kraken (Tetris-like) [WIP NES Homebrew]
Sneak peak at the 2 nametables this game is using. First for the title screen and then 2nd for the gameplay area. Hopefully will have a smooth transition between the 2 when the player presses START.

Re: What's Kraken (Tetris-like) [WIP NES Homebrew]
Hi, I played your game for about 20 minutes yesterday and think overall it's a nice game of tetris, I especially like the background art. Only suggestion I have is that after 15 minutes of playing it should have gotten harder, but the game seemed a bit easy for a tetris game. Perhaps have different...

Re: Possible to play music that doesn't loop in Famitone2 (neslib)
Thanks for all the insight! This is what was originally in the song, and does not work for some reason. Is that what you are doing as well? Or am I missing something? Is anyone willing to post an example famitracker song that I could test in my game (which works fine for them)? Maybe its something s...

Possible to play music that doesn't loop in Famitone2 (neslib)
I am using famitone2 via neslib in C. I end my music with CXX to stop the music: http://famitracker.com/wiki/index.php?title=Cxx This works fine in famitracker, and works fine for sound effects in my game. However, music always seems to loop no matter what. I have also tried BXX to force an infinite...

Re: What's Kraken (Tetris-like) [WIP NES Homebrew]
Update Week 2! Did a bunch of work around getting the basics of tetris done: Added concept of leveling up every 10 lines. Leveling up triggers palette change and speed increase. Soft drop fall rates now match NES Tetris. Sound effects implemented. Created a sound test menu to help test audio (I fin...

Re: Music Playback Very Slow
Just in case anyone stumbles on this hoping to find a solution, the solution I posted above did not actually fix the issue. I mean it did for a very small example song, but when I applied the solution to a full song, it still played back very slow. To fix it, the musician just redid the song without...

Re: My first nes game! (DemonDistrict)
Excellent work! Reminded me of Sweet Home for the Famicom. I love how unique it feels compared to other games on the system. I would happily shell out for a full game on cartridge if you ever get to it! As others have said, I think some of the "hit boxes" for triggering interactions were a...

HI za909. You're work is really great, and I have actually been follow Nova Squirrel dev on Twitter for some time! Is that you? @BushytailSkwirl But I actually already had an musician reach out, and start working on music and sounds. They are pretty far along too, so there isn't much left. Sorry I s...

Re: Music Playback Very Slow
After reducing this song down to just 1 frame of music, I think I have narrowed down the issue. The issue appears to occur whenever there is a note played on all 4 channels, and at the same time a tempo fx is applied. music_broken_line.png I suspect this is a bug in famitone2, since this plays fine ...

Re: Music Playback Very Slow
One thing to keep in mind is that other music plays back fine in the exact same game (just swapping out the exported music .s file). So I think it is something unique about this particular song (although possibly just exposing a bug in my code the other song did not). But the c code for playing musi...

Re: Recommendation for dev cart?
Nowadays for retro gamedev you can use emulator. The only reason of using dev cartridge is unique hardware. Funny coming from a site dedicated to writing programs for a system that went obsolete 20+ years ago. :D I'm guessing a good chunk of us do this because we dreamed of one day running our own ...

Music Playback Very Slow
Hi, I'm pretty new to NES development, and even more so NES Music. I am making an NES game in C using neslib, with music playback via famitone2. The musician I am working with has sent me a music track which, when played in famitracker or exported as an nsf, sounds totally fine. However, when I expo...

Recommendation for dev cart?
Hi, I'm just getting into NES dev (just NROM at this point) and I'd like to start running on real hardware. I am thinking of picking up an everdrive N8 or N8Pro, but the price is quite high. I'm wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives that might work for this kind of need (eg. I dont care ab...
