Re: Was Hong Kong 97 a homebrew?
The story behind the game is very interesting. I think we can consider it a homebrew, like many other pirate / unofficial releases! I can understand the author no longer wants to talk about the game (and we should respect that), but I think it belongs to the overall history of video games. Today, a...

But then again, Doom was all about those textures na mean?

Re: SNES Doom Source Released! Now What?
I'd use the LSB as "walk" instead of "run" so that you don't have to press it all the time. There doesn't seem to be that many opportunities in Doom where you would need the extra precision that walking gives you, and if you're in combat, you'll certainly want to keep running, s...

Re: SNES Doom Source Released! Now What?
Has anyone confirmed that the mouse works? I saw a recent video, and the guy couldn't get the (Hyperkin) mouse to work. MVG did say that the mouse doesn't work in the PAL version. I have the PAL Doom ROM, and even though I don't have the SNES mouse, with Mesen-S, I can quickly confirm that the mous...

Re: Nova the Squirrel 2 (WIP)
https://i.imgur.com/e1qCWv9.png I'm planning to, either after the SNES one is all done, or once there's a lot more progress on it. Do you plan to have SGB and/or GBC support? The latter would be awesome so that I wouldn't have to experiment with button combinations to see which palette fits best on...

Re: SNES Doom Source Released! Now What?
Another poster once suggested that even the Gamecube would have trouble with Minecraft simply due to the sheer amount of memory required. I guess unless it's DSCraft. Graphically, I'm thinking a colourmap approach like Doom would work well for distance fading of texture contrast - sort of a poor ma...

Re: SNES Doom Source Released! Now What?
So yeah, I might be looking forward to seeing a SNES version of Freedoom sometime in 2021 or something. Sorry, What means that?. The most urgent things that needs the game is to improve the perfomance, and increase the resolution. I know improving the performance and resolution is important, but I ...

Re: SNES Doom Source Released! Now What?
THIS JUST IN: I e-mailed Randy Linden about what he was originally going to upload for Phase 4 and he said this.

Yes, he really asked about my music.
I guess we should be glad he no longer has to go through that long legal progress to licence the Doom assets from Bethesda, thanks for Freedoom.

Re: SNES Doom Source Released! Now What?
Phase two adds a lot of new files: https://github.com/RandalLinden/DOOM-FX Ooh yeah, thanks for posting about that. I've recently e-mailed Randy Linden about the possibility of having Freedoom assets in the DoomFX source code. He said that replacing the assets with those from Freedoom should be eas...

Re: SNES Doom Source Released! Now What?
Doomworld got hold of it, and there's already a (slightly imperfect) patch to add circle-strafing. https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/115716-snes-doom-source-released-under-gplv3/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-2158679 If this keeps up, they'll have released The Ultimate Doom with dynamic light...

Re: SNES Doom Source Released! Now What?
The problem is (AFAIR again) they are for some Amiga PC. In case you're not familiar with it, the Commodore Amiga was a semi-popular personal computer from the late 80s and early 90s, and emulating it (with UAE ) isn't terribly difficult as long as you can get a suitable Kickstart ROM image and a m...

SNES Doom Source Released! Now What?
Good news, guys! Randy Linden just released the Doom SNES source! https://github.com/RandalLinden/DOOM-FX/tree/eb242b630d368d131e37173cb45117440cf79609/source Naturally, not all of the code was released, as it seems all of the copyrighted Doom assets were removed from it. And of course, since it's 1...
