Cool, thanks for the tip on the dots. The PRG chip in Final Fantasy didn't have a notch, so now I know :) As for MMC chips, the one in FF says MMC182... how can I tell exactly what MMC chip that is? I've only heard them referred to as MMC1, MMC2, etc... Also, I've noticed that there are traces from ...

About chips...

I just got my Gamebit pieces in the mail, so I've been opening up some carts to clean, and have been checking out the boards to some extent. I just had a couple quick questions about chips. On the chip itself, how do you count what pin is what? Do you look at the lettering on the chip and count arou...

Alright, did it :D What it seems to me is that the nametable itself deals with the background... and I'm guessing that vertical mirroring is called so because the background tiles(?) generate vertically from top to bottom. I haven't tested any horizontal yet, but I'm guessing the tiles lay out horiz...

Man, this was a crazy thread... Alright, so I'm trying to grasp the concept of mirroring here. I take it that it's basically how you're game is going to operate in terms of directions of travel pretty much (that's what I got out of it). Horizontal >> Scroll Vertically Vertical >> Scroll Horizontally...

Hey Memblers, if it's not too much trouble (and provided you don't mind doing it), could you maybe list what all the different chips are on that board? It'd give me some different things to learn (what they are, what they do etc.) while waiting on my book to get here... plus it would kill some time ...

I'm not sure of the capabilities/differences of the two systems yet, but have you thought about designing your game for the SNES. It sounds like you want it to be more complex than what the NES can do. Maybe if you go 16-bit you can get more of what you need for your game. I could be way off-track t...

Is there a way to get rid of this person who keeps posting about pills? Man, I'm sure there are other forums that rank higher on Google for this guy to spam.

About the bit you need to open the carts, it's called a Gamebit. The size for NES games is 3.8mm. The other size is 4.5 mm which is mainly for Sega products, but I believe can open others as well (maybe even the N64?). You can generally get them both pretty cheap together. If you're gonna get one, y...

Okay, when I have Hold Note and Envelope Fix in the 'On' position, it affects the noise channel as well. It makes everything repeat alot. I'm not sure how to get around that so I can have just a basic - Bass, Snare, Bass, Snare beat. Am I doing something wrong here? Also, if I don't have those two s...

Alright, I went to my local library, and it seems they only have one book on assembly... and it's not directed at the 6502. It's called Structured Assembly Language by Len Dorfman. But perhaps it could help me out. Here's what the table of contents has: Part I : Assembly Basics 1. EXE and COM File C...

Instrument Editor in NT2

I can't seem to figure out how to get to the instrument editor in NerdTracker 2. I'm guessing this is what it looks like... http://nesdev.com/nt2/tips-dpcm.htm I'm not finding a screen set-up like that anywhere. I can't find anything in the .txt file with it, either (besides the ASCII diagram of tho...
