I'm curious, should the screen go blank or anything while the cable is plugged in? I mean, it seems it is always in play mode...is that normal?

Oh, and exactly what order should I plug the cable in, turn the softwareon, and turn the NES on?

Actually, it does this on all cart types...<sigh>.

I just don't know what it could be! :-(

Copy Nes hangs when trying to dump, can't resart

Finally got my CopyNES assembled and tried to test it out. When I try to dump a ls161 (cnrom 256) cart, Arkanoid in this case, it freezes on the dumping screen permanently after I enter a name and hit enter (no progress bar ever appears). If I Alt+Tab to get out of there so I can close it (Esc won't...

Haven't found the measurements yet, but jfgoods777 sells them for $9.99USD on eBay.

His main page is http://jfgoods.net/

He has an excellent tutorial on that site for replacing the belt too.

Will try to find those measurements soon.

Certain games? Try one game. Only the NWC cart is known not to work without a lockout chip inside the console . Are you talking about a totally removed lockout chip, or just a disbled one with pin 4 lifted? I disconnected pin 4 on my lockoput chip to play foreign games and such and my NWC cart work...

NWC uses the lockout chip's RESET line in order to initialize the mapper. It would appear that "cutting pin #4" leaves this RESET line intact and still allows games to work properly. I suspect, if you tried running the game on a TOP-loader, you would have some problems... Yes, you definit...

My lockout chip is disabled and my NWC cart works fine. I thought the NWC cart made use of the reset line or something like that...are you getting these crossed?

Which games don't work without the lockout chip? I haven't run into any...

Well, actually, it does work if I use a shorter cable. The output impedance of the parallel port on some PCs is very high, which makes it more susceptible to noise and the capacitance of the cable. I'm wondering exactly what is causing the data to get corrupted, with a long cable. Wow...that's inte...

I doubt the cable is the problem. I buttload of parallel programs, especially for console copier/dumper type devices will not work on notebooks due to a shittier parallel controller used in most notebooks. It seems a desktop is required for many of these applications.

Many older Bung-type devices and other copiers have this same issue....must be run in 98 or 95. I have been meaning to make a second partition on my HD for a while. I have Partition Magic, but I have to reread the instructions on how to make a 98 partition. For all the copiers and things I can't use...

Wow, another thought struck me. Rob, where do I get a "U" connector? I read your old NES article at Ars Technica and loved it, but I don't need more holes in my NES. Sorry...from the side, a 72 pin connector looks like a U, lol. BTW, what article are you talking about? Could be anything, ...
