I bought the cabinet for $100 from a guy here in town, though it was more like trading two older computers someone had given me. I had the diodes already from another project so they didnt cost anything. I spent $37 (including shipping) for the Flyback, transistors, caps, the two pigtail fuses. I ha...

the parts arrived on Monday like i suspected they would, though I did not get a chance to redo the board until last night due to a crazy work schedule. Yesterday was one of those fun days where i was rather grumpy so I decided to sit down, relax, and redo the chassis board. everything went smooth wi...

arcade projects
I know quite a few people here have retro-gaming projects not related to the NES, and since I recently acquired an old arcade cabinet, I figured I would ask if anyone else has an arcade project. Below is a little info on my current project, and a few pictures can be see at http://img697.imageshack.u...

i have about 16kb worth of space for levels, so optimizations is not really that big of a deal i guess. I have used use the object method before though in this the odds of reusing a block of tiles is very slim. in previous versions that had less tile types, i used the RLE method and got rather small...

level data: RLE type compression vs fixed length
I am at the stage in my game where i am designing the various data formats and what not. the levels in my game will be for a grid of 14x10 tiles. (there is actually a frame around this grid so it is really 16x12, but the frame is tile type 0 so when i clear the buffer it will take care of this).... ...

random light gun thought: i was thinking a while ago about making a zapper demo, that showed a 16pixel grid on the screen, and when you shoot, it would show where you shot at, though at the expense of lower frame rates. what i was thinking, is that when the player pressed the trigger, it would check...

card games, keeping track of the cards.
I have been attempting to write a card game for the nes, and have been having quite the time figuring out a system of keeping the cards in order between two players. i think i have finally found a system that works for this game, though i would like to get some criticism and suggestions if possible....

try making the card game War on the NES. the card management is a pain in the ass. keeping all the cards in the same order why swapping them between two players. i am currently using two double sided stacks... though it isnt really a stack... but its the only way i know how to describe it is by comp...
