I'd find it great if someone in the "scene" (bunnyboy?) created this new mapper, with 1KB CHR switching, 8KB PRG switching and a reliable scanline (cycle?) counter. Oh, and nametable layout selection. I'd love this mapper, and would use it for all my projects. The closest mapper to this w...

Are there any examples in levels that contain bumpable blocks (that is, not water levels)? Well, you might also need to consider the mushrooms. Specific colors are necessary for them to be differentiated and identifiable - otherwise, it could be confusing to identify what's a Super Mushroom (red) a...

It already is, to an extent. Notice that the game never throws more than two different colors of enemies at the player at once, and if you can run SMB1 in Nintendulator, watch how the palette RAM changes right before the red turtle in 1-2. When I tried doing this (with FCEUxD, which also has palett...

What is the best way to simulate voice acting on the NES?

What do you guys think would be a good way to simulate (or even implement) English voice acting on an NES game? Many NES games that try to fake voice acting use PSG channels, alternating pitch and volume. Some of these games (Famicom Tantei Club 1 and 2) play it at the same pitch, but Jesus - Kyofu ...

Until a new release fixes the problem, you might want to preserve your version, because AFAIK, the latest version 1.37 is the only version that suffers from this problem.

Heh, sorry to bump this topic, but I was just now worrying about this, because I was testing my game with Nestopia, and it does have problems (IRQs don't fire) after a soft reset. However, this does happen with many (all?) other MMC3 games, as stated by strangenesfreak, so it probably is just a bug...

I'm just posting to say I was amazed to hear how the squares in Adventure of Bayou Billy souds exactly like a guiter. When I looked at the Square 2 waveform, it appears to do clever volume effects on the notes and banjoish-string effects (I don't know what they're called XD). The banjoish-string ef...

Really, the ones to blame for slowdown are always the objects/enemies. It'd be tough to not process them every frame though, because if they are not rendered, the action will look very weird with objects missing or not moving. Collisions with the player might go undetected, because it can move very...

If your game is faced with big tasks, I think you could reduce the framerate of the game when the tasks need to be executed instead of slowing it down. If your game segregates the main tasks to the main thread, you could also reduce the framerate of the main thread instead of the whole game. You cou...

Wow... as I keep looking at commercial games I see some strange stuff... I just know checked this game, "Super Cars", which seems to hide a few scanlines at the top. I don't know what it does yet, but it must be something very funky, because Nestopia seems to be the only one to emulate it...

I agree with Bregalad - IMO, "Rave Dancetune" used very poor samples, and I believe the SNES version could've sampled waveforms more or less richer than the Genesis's FM synthesized waveforms. Although the Genesis version's "Rave Dancetune" is superior to the SNES version and is ...

I sort of doubt that NOA threatened bunnyboy. I think it would make sense that other products (PowerPak Lite, USB CopyNES, ReproPak and its parts, etc.) - or even the RetroUSB site itself - would be unavailable should NOA have threatened bunnyboy's company.

You could also send him an email letting him know you're interested I guess. He's the only one that would know when more will be available. The RetroZone site discourages sending emails about product status: Emails asking for when products will be available will be ignored, check the product descri...

Since nobody seems to be responding yet, I did a little research from the forum. From this post on November 8th, 2007: Is there some way I can buy a PowerPak without a CF card and reader? I already have those and $130+ is a pretty steep price, even for a great product. Hope you'll understand; thanks...
