Actually those red mountaintops make me want to use the same effect in a NES game with parallax. It'd be trivial provided you can spare one palette being the same between sprites and BG.

Thanks for the rundown. I suspected as much - better in tech specs but worse in the physical graphics department. It's a shame they had to build games around the display being poor. Also tokumaru, that game looks amazing. Can't believe it's 8-bit. I knew the Master System looked much better than the...

Gameboy versus NES in terms of power

I was reading on another forum about the relative strength of handhelds versus their contemporaries on the console side, and it made me realize I really don't know much about the difference between the GB and NES. While tech specs are available all over the place, that doesn't always provide the who...

Gun Nac is really good. Feels more like a 16 bit era game, with the options and variety of powerups it gives you. 5 types of guns with several upgrade levels, 5 types of screen-clearing bombs, change your ship movement speed anytime you want with Select(!), even change whether speed has priority or ...

Can you beat a Megaman game? Can you beat Silver Surfer? How long does it take you to beat each game?

IMO, this was an interesting concept for the NES, on the Wii it's just mediocre (unless there's something really innovative about it I'm not aware of). He might have given up on the NES game because of technical difficulties... I don't know, I'm pretty confident that you could approximate Grand The...

I'm not trying to advocate that no scenes should be skippable, I'm against the idea that developers need to then go a step further and make sure the player doesn't miss anything despite his conscious decision to miss something. I mean, that's what I said from the beginning: Cutscenes should be skipp...

Well is it that hard to make a program that detect when a button is pressed and skip the scene if so anyway ? To be honest what I don't like is when you have to go trough 10 minutes of cut-scenes before being able to play anything. The best is short and breath-taking opening, like in Final Fantasy ...

I have the same lack of remorse for players who don't read the manual and get upset when they don't know how to jump, or who skip the "boring tutorial" and get upset when they don't know how to equip an item...or those who don't watch a scene that gives them vital information. Addressed i...

Personally I have no remorse for players who don't bother to sit through potentially vital information. Then you'd be a poor game designer. Nope. Poor is a relative term. I have the same lack of remorse for players who don't read the manual and get upset when they don't know how to jump, or who ski...

Personally I have no remorse for players who don't bother to sit through potentially vital information. If you can't be bothered to watch for objectives then maybe you should be playing a different game. Cutscenes should be skippable but that doesn't mean they need to also be irrelevant to playing t...

That's something I've been wondering about, if it would be possible to make a new NES game for Wiiware. Of course you can make something like Mega Man 9 once you've made and sold a game on at least one non-Nintendo platform. No need, I just have to find someone who's already released a Wiiware game...

That's awesome! That's why it disappeared off the face of the earth. I kept looking it up every once in a while, always disappointed. I wonder if it's still a NES game at heart running on an emulator, or some kind of port. That's something I've been wondering about, if it would be possible to make a...
