"You kicked my brother."

"No I didn't."

"Yes you did."

"Well, other people kicked him too."

"And...?"

Even if you don't sense it, for many people there can be an understood "hey, you're pretty stupid, I'm linking this guide rather than giving you the help you wanted because I only feel disdain for you." Whenever I've posted it, it was to say "stop being selfish; put some effort into ...

Another time was when a new user posted a question in the Newbie Help Center, and your response was a link to "How to ask questions the smart way". I don't see anything wrong with Mr. Raymond's guide to support forum netiquette. In fact, see the sticky that has since gone up in newbievill...

It's already not going to be anywhere near what a real DDR game is like, though. As you say, it can only support two players at once, so we make that concession. It can only do 5 channel chip music, so we make that concession. Why then can't we make concessions for less colors and less available spr...

I don't see why you can't just avoid everything that causes a problem. It's not meant to be a perfect port, it's meant to be DDR, which at its minimum is four arrows at the top and at least one arrow moving up the screen. Different colored arrows using up too many colors? Use dithering patterns inst...

As with anything else, it's all about good use of techniques when they are warranted. Motion lines are not always useful all the time. They're good in fighting games and for sword swipes and such, but I would be hesitant to say that you should use motion lines all the time every time. Most recent ex...

Fluidity doesn't matter as much as looking natural. For example, an eye blinking. Most people would think to themselves, "eyelid goes down, then the eyelid goes up," and animate two frames down to closed to two frames up. But it actually looks more natural to have the eye instantly closed ...

Of course, it isn't free anymore.
Wait, what? Game Maker's still free. It's had both a paid and free version for as long as I can remember.

Yeah, relationships are all about economics and it's not hard to see why. We try to spend more time with people who provide us with a good feeling, whether from being funny or because we love them, and we try to avoid people who provide us with bad feelings. To you, it is worth more of your time to ...

He did on the British show from 1984 to 1986, and the American show in 1989. He's only made one appearance in relation to Thomas since then.

Wacky Races isn't that impressive to me, it looks basically like Rad Racer. Completely flat ground, effects easily achieved with raster distortion techniques. I wish people would stop calling these Mode 7, or even saying they look like Mode 7. Mode 7 means the entire ground is one big texture that c...

You can tell it would be impossible just by looking at screens of the Metroid 23rd Anniversary hack. There's a minimap in the corner overlaid over the rest of the game, as well as a timer and other things. This might be possible to add to the game but it would take a huge overhaul, and your certainl...

Exactly, it is either a game or a tech demo, and not merely an engine. Even a level of null data is providing something for the engine to work with. One could argue that a screen with a single red square that you can move around is a sandbox game. Set your own goals! See how fast you can move it sid...

Yeah, it's pretty clear that the engine is what you have when there is no audio data, graphical data, or level data. You can't play an engine.

Yeah, I read this ages ago, it's a nice resource. Really well done. I find it can also help a lot just to look at other people's sprites, examine them up close, figure out what makes them stand out. Here is the current location of the forum mentioned on that page - Pixelation. They are very helpful ...
