Making CNROM devcart to play Panesian games?
Hi, I'm in the process of creating a CNROM devcart and am having some troubles with the Panesian games. The games boot up fine, but all of the graphics are garbled except for some of the text. Now, the issue is that CNROM's only support up to 32K of CHR-ROM, but the Panesian games all use 64K of CHR...

TSROM
Update: In both cases, I just wired pin 30 to A17 (pin 1) for the CHR and PRG and I got the game working. There are still some minor scrambled graphics going on, but not really during gameplay. I also have to insert the cart a few times before it works without being all scrambled, so it also may be ...

small problem with TSROM/MMC3 cart, help please ;)
Okay, so I am very close to having my TSROM cart working. I have some problems that I am just confused regarding the wiring (once again). So basically the cart turns on and I hear sound, but the graphics are scrambled (so CHR wiring issue there) but then after a short time the game freezes up. So I'...

Thanks!
Thanks a lot! Yeah, I don't plan on bending the pins, seeing as I've messed up EPROMs doing that. I know it seemed fairly obvious, for some reason I just thought that maybe it was implying that GND was pin 24, I have no idea why. I guess I was just not reading things properly.

SNROM confusion! Help needed (plzzz!)
So I've got everything ready to go for my first SNROM cart and I have a little bit of confusion. I have the original chip pulled from the board, and my new programmed chip with the new game is all ready to go. However, when looking at the instructions for the cart mod for the EPROM, I had some confu...

That's actually a really good point. I wouldn't mind having an FF3 cart in the future, so I'll hold on to some of them for sure. I'll have to go hunting for some TLROM boards, since there definitely are a TON of them. Also planning on making a TSROM devcart with sockets as well. What about the Sonic...

TLROM, TSROM and TKROM Question
Hello, This may seem like a pretty dumb question, but I need to ask it. I'm currently in the process of making some repro carts, and was wondering if it were possible to use burned chips of a game that originally used TLROM onto a TSROM donor cart. Since the game wouldn't be using the 8K of W-RAM, w...

hey, i recommend using the tniNES software to split your rom files. Here is a link to download the software. It will remove the header, and split the rom into PRG and CHR files. From my experience, this was the easiest and fastest software to use to accomplish this task. Here is a link: http://www.p...

SMB2Beta
Thanks a lot for the added info! It's definitely really interesting to see the changes that occurred between the conversion of the FSD DDP to what became the final version of SMB2 and in between. It definitely helps now that I actually understand what all of that meant as well since I've been going ...

yeah, I'll have to just give it a shot and see how things work out. Thanks a lot for all the replies, it is much appreciated to have helpful people on a forum like this (and willing to help us n00bz). I was reading the NESdev wiki, but was still confused about some things. Some of the terms are stil...

I'm actually trying to split a patched version of Super Mario Bros 2, with a Doki Doki Panic conversion IPS patch applied to it. I was also trying to do the SMB2 prototype rom, and it had similar properties. Here is what Nestopia gave me under Image Info: File: smb2beta.zip <smb2proto.nes> Directory...

CHR-RAM
Thats awesome, thanks a lot for all the info so far, it is much appreciated! So you're saying that you only really need to worry about burning the PRG chip, because it will be using a CHR-RAM instead of the CHR-ROM. So lets say I use an MMC1 board from RetroZone as you mentioned, and I solder my RAM...

whats great about tnines is that it actually splits the code, and puts the header in its own separate file (a .HDR file). that way the PRG and CHR are extracted without any headers left in them at all. Its as simple as doing this: tnines -s mario.nes check it out. the only thing is, roms with things...

solved!
Okay, so I just figured out a really great way to successfully pull the PRG and CHR files along with the iNes header (HDR). If you would like to split your iNES files all in one go, use tniNES 2.6. Here is a link: http://huizen.dds.nl/~patriekl/tniNES.html This is definitely the easiest way to go, a...

Okay, thanks a lot for the advice! The programmer I ended up getting was an actual Willem but not completely USB, as they were a bit more than I wanted to spend. However, this one should be of good quality, and can program all the chips I need to use and more. As far as EPROMS go, I think I'll just ...
