It depends on how big you want the delay.

RAM = delay x number of captured values per voice, per frame

This probably isn't single-voice echo, but if you want to hear some games on the NES/Famicom that use echoes as their main "thing", check out many Kemco games ( Bugs Bunny, Shadowgate, Uninvited, Deja Vu ...) as well as Xexyz & many compositions by Masuko "Macco" Tsukasa (on...

There is a solution to single-voice-echo - I've done it in Nijuu. It involves quite a bit of RAM as it uses a circular buffer for each voice (A, B & D), captures the audio on those voices, processes them and slots the processed output into "gaps" in the track. Also, on A & B, you c...

Please don't take me too seriously, I'm being deliberately controversial :) I was around during the C64's golden years and I can't remember ever hearing anyone do the single-voice-echo trick on that platform back then. I never had a Spectrum so I've no experience. There was certainly no instance of ...

But it is still fascinating for me how people (like you) came up with such techniques. :) I hope this milds your wounds.

But he had a geographical advantage seeing as Japan is many hours ahead of the UK.

I literally invented it 7 hours after he did. ;)

History of The Single Voice Echo?

I read an interview today on 1-UP with Hidenori Maezawa. In the text it's suggested that he "invented" the single-voice-echo technique. From what I can gather they're talking about his NES music for Contra back in 1988. It made me think. I wasn't aware of his music back when I started out ...

Now all of the voices in that tune are fairly simple, this would've been a different story if I tried doing one of Neil's tracks or something
I try to keep you on your toes.

There's an easier way though: you can ask me.

I just output stuff to a WAV/AIFF file (from Game Music Box) and then listen to it in a sample editor. You could immediately get double the slow down by setting the sample playback rate (not resample) to half the original file, though the pitch will be an octave below the original of course. I use &...

Whoot :-) Anyway I reccomend getting some q-tips (cotton buds) and some alcohol (pure) and just rub the connectors with the alcohol. (always works for me) You know, I thought that the second I pressed "Submit" but then I thought "Given this week's troubles I'm touching nothing until ...

Good news! My Famicom AV is alive again :D

And I've got a 72-pin converter, just waiting for my PowerPak now (which has been shipped already).

Any tips on cleaning carts? Seems some of my old games don't work so good any more :(

I'm just messing about :)

Yours is a good sound in it's own right, I wouldn't get too obsessed with making it exact. It's a good learning process though, eh? :)

Arrggg! :) This mean I will have to find another way to reproduce it by using other channels at the same time. On the bright side, at the least I'm getting somewhere. I don't know if it would work but what would happen if you put one frame of noise before the start with 0 amplitude i.e. so you can'...
