- Topic: What happened with SNES CIC reverse engineering?

Basically the NES CIC internals are still unknown, so the Ciclone does not help in creating an SNES version. Isn't it possible to analyze the behavior of the SNES CIC, so that it could be reproduced? I believe that would be called clean room reverse engineering. Otherwise, reproductions could alway...

I had the constant resetting problem when I tried playing the US cartridge on a Super Famicom. On a US system, however, it worked fine. Judging from my experience, it would seem that there is some kind of lockout issue with the Super FX and some other expansion chips. I wonder if there are timing is...

Well, the PowerPak mod requires a 47k ohm resistor. But I think that you need closer to 100k ohms in order for physical carts with external audio to mix properly with the NES output. If you already did the PowerPak audio mod, just bridge the relevant pins on the adapter with ~50k ohm resistor and it...

Did Nasir Gebeli do FF single-handedly? AFAIK, yes he did. I have a vague memory of a chance-meeting with someone in the metro-Detroit area, who claimed to be Nasir. He asked me if I knew of Final Fantasy, and if I recalled the first bridge. When I responded positively, he then said that he, indeed...

Wow, I honestly thought that it was hardware mode scaling, especially considering the slow processor that the SNES uses. I guess any system could be programmed with a software sprite scaling routine, but it runs very smoothly on the SNES. Maybe I'm just too much of a sucker for the SNES, which seems...

It is up to us, and our very subjective perceptions, to determine what is or isn't a toy. If playing with a toy makes you happy, picture that happy image. If you want to think you're above that, think of it in a different light. People attach labels to things; there's no cosmic rule mandating or gov...

I'm just starting to get my feet wet, learning the BASICs of Commodore 64 and 128 programming. I would recommend the Commodore to any beginner wanting to program old systems. One thing that I've found helps for learning, is the availability of printed reference material. You know what? If NESdev pri...
