What advantage do larger capacity PRG RAM chips offer?
I've got somewhat odd question. I've noticed that some of my MMC5 Famicom koei games have various amounts of PRG RAM. Most have 8K PRG RAM, but a few have two banks of PRG RAM (for a total of 16K PRG RAM total) and one board I have even has 32K. The question I have isn't about any specific game, but...

Quest of Ki repro using DE1ROM NES donor cart?
Hey I hope someone here might be able to help me. I'm seeking to get a repro of Namco's Quest of Ki for the Famicom on an NES cart. Quest of Ki is on mapper 206, which only NES counterpart is DE1ROM. I have a Karnov board I want to use as a donor for this. The PRG is 128K and the CHR is 164K, both 2...

Re: Super Mario Bros. 2 (J) on a cart
Thank you so much! This works! Tested it on the Powerpak and N8 and both give the all clear. Now I'm going to use a TSROM donor. I'm curious about one other thing. What do the last two digits of various boards mean? Like TSROM-03 TSROM-06 TSROM-08 Are those board revisions? I assume so. Does it make...

Re: Super Mario Bros. 2 (J) on a cart
Thanks Loopy, that worked! (hold A then press Start) but it doenst reflect any stars on the titlescreen. Are the number of stars stored elsewhere? Even though it's meaningless, I'd like the repro to have the full 8 stars on the title upon bootup if possible. What address is that stored at and what v...

Re: Super Mario Bros. 2 (J) on a cart
Hey, I'm wondering if someone here might be able to help with a small project I'm working on. I am looking to make an NES reproduction cart of Super Mario Bros. 2J using loopy's TSROM MMC3 hack, but I want to take it one step beyond that by having access to worlds A-D without having to beat the game...

Re: Final Fantasy 3J move to MMC5?
Hm, so ETROM is completely useless for this task. Disappointing, but not totally unexpected or someone else would have done this already. Sorry, I thoguth the hack was newer than it is. I had an old build with the dashing, but it seemed different from the one that was put on rom hacking in 2011. I w...

Re: Final Fantasy 3J move to MMC5?
There are two fan translations of FF3J for Famicom. The first one is kinda rough in it's translation, but otherwise is just the same as the original. The translation I want was made years later and features many bug fixes and the all important ability to dash holding down the B button, something mis...

Re: Final Fantasy 3J move to MMC5?
Well actually, I'm not totally sure what the breakdown is. Since the final ROM is 1 MB, I naturally assumed the PRG and CHR were 512K split down the middle. That might be wrong though. Here's the patch for you to look at yourself. http://www.romhacking.net/translations/1590/ If you like I can provid...

Re: Final Fantasy 3J move to MMC5?
Oh you're totally right. I remembered wrong. Yes, it is TG-ROM that Final Fantasy 3J uses. I want to switch to ET-ROM (MMC5) using a Koei Famicom donor, not an NES repro. Famicom ET-ROM boards use four NES security screws, granting easy access to the pcb and making that board ideally suited for repr...

Final Fantasy 3J move to MMC5?
I want to make a Final Fantasy III reproduction cart based on the 2011 English fan translation and bug fix that offers extras like dashing with the B button. However, I've been told this game is only playable in emulators as the original Final Fantasy 3J uses TGROM, MMC3 + battery backed sram with a...

Re: Rockman 4 MI re-translation project
First let me apologize for the length of this post, and yeah< I know about romhacking. I've got a thread there too. As mentioned on the onset of this thread, I don't have rom hacking skills myself; I can only generate mock ups for the original author of this hack and for others who do have hacking s...

Sure, this is my WIP font. http://24.media.tumblr.com/1168fcc6ecbb02ee42162cbfe9696cdf/tumblr_mpekf1vL3E1rc7qlzo1_400.png koitsu, do you think you might be able to do what I asked about in the top post on this page of the thread? I'd like someone to edit the pallet of Megaman in the MI rom and the o...

Re: Rockman 4 MI re-translation project
It took revising an entire character set, but I'm pretty happy with the my new font, and this is what will be used from this point onwards with only minor changes. The rescue of Kalinka cutscene, with a new translation I've done. Click to enlarge. http://25.media.tumblr.com/c453d8d45f0b188e024600f9d...

Re: Rockman 4 MI re-translation project
Hey, for those in the know, how difficult/possible would it be to alter Megaman's color pallet in Rockman 4 MI to match his Megaman 9 and 10 appearance? http://24.media.tumblr.com/71d211f6204e5785468d7981b43f205e/tumblr_mpa2efHXS91rc7qlzo1_500.png The only difference is the shade of his lighter blue...

Re: Rockman 4 MI re-translation project
Could someone please rip the other two capital fonts in Rockman 4 MI? They're present in the original game as well. They are: the 6x6 font used only in the pause/weapon select screen and the green font used in the get weapon screen after you beat the bosses. These should be easy to find in the rom, ...
