Questions regarding the NES power supply

I've got a question about power supplies for the NES. I got a NES-101 Toploader and I've noticed it runs a bit hot using the standard NES Power Supply. I know the NES-001 and 101 both are robust systems that are use a Power Supply that outputs AC but I've also heard you can use a power supply that o...

How many NES top loaders & toasters were sold in their r

I am working on a editorial on the NES designs in North America and would like to know the North American sales figures for both designs, even if they're just estimates. How many NES 001 "toasters" were sold in the system's run? How many NES 101 "top loaders" were sold in the sys...

Satoshi Matrix Reviews - Retro and Contemporary

Hey all, given that there's a great community here around retro gaming and all things NES/Famicom, I figured I should share with you something I've been working on for more than a year now - my series of game reviews! Now I know, reviewers are dime a dozen. I try to put as much care and detail into ...

Micro Machines cart doesn't work - need some help

Today I bought a copy of Micro Machines for NES and to my shock, it doesn't work! I've opened it up and looked at the PCB, and it seems completely fine the caps are not inflated/gone bad and even the contact pins are shiny and nice. I've tried it with a few my lockout chip disabled NES, a few Famicl...

Even though you did it kind of rudely, I appreciate the help. I tried wiring it up, but it's not working. So on to plan B: I need help understanding my Famiclone's controller pins starting from the board. Here are several high res pictures of the motherboard. Hopefully someone can help me figure out...

Need the 4021 pinout

Hey all. I have a Famiclone that is a perfect hardware clone now that I've swapped out its clone CPU and PPU for ones from a real Famicom (some of you may recall me asking about that a while back) Now that I've got the chips replaced, I also wish to replace the controllers with real Famicom controll...

How to remove permanent marker from nes games?

Over the years, I've bought a number of NES games with permanent marker written over them. Some of the games I've managed to get the marker off with rubbing alcohol, but a few games are really really stubborn. One game in particular has a name written over the back in large letters. I've taken the c...

So today I got a modded NES 101 from akaviolence, but it doesn't work. I contacted him an hour ago, but so far no reply. Maybe you guys can help me out. I'm using an NES 001 power supply. This system has been modded with AV, stereo (either amplified mono or simulated stereo by dividing the sound cha...

Polarity on the Twin Famicom

Hey guys, I have a Twin Famicom that I'm going to sell because I never use it. I know it works, but just to be sure I want to test it before I sell it. it never came with a power supply, so I've always had to improvise. It requires 9v DC as to be expected, but I notice that it's center core positive...

Actually, this brings up an interesting question.

Would games look better on a Famicom Titler or on this modded NES? IIRC, the Titler outputs RGB, and does so through S-Video?

So it would be S-video true RGB vs component converted from RGB. Which would give a better signal?
