I never cared for the pumps, I always had better luck with braid, but if you get one go with the squeeze bulb kind, you can at least do something with one of those. Super-Hampster is right, just plugging in the chips to your clone wont necessarily work, there is a good chance they have different pi...

I seem to recall seeing a post from a while ago where Memblers said to to an SKROM by using the SLROM rewiring instructions for the CHR chip and UNROM rewiring for the PRG chip. This doesn't seem to make sense to me, is it true? See here for reference: http://nesdev.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=216&s...

Thanks. And BTW Tepples, this isn't just for any RAM, but for the battery backup RAM, and I don't intend to modify the original ROM(s) for this purpose. Though that would be kinda cool.

Multiple save RAM?

I'm working on a development cartridge and want to be able to put multiple saves on the cartridge. It'd be MMC1, and my thought it to use a bigger SRAM than needed and take the leftover more-significant bit lines and tie them to a DIP switch to be able to switch between save data banks. I'm not the ...

Assuming your game will work alright in a NOAC clone, you could get one of those cheap and encase the game PCB and NOAC board in some potting compound. The NOACs are generally very inexpensive and accurate enough for some things, and there is no worry about CopyNES with a NOAC. If your beta tester c...

I agree. I guess I started to develop that kind of attitude playing games like Metal Slug, especially the third one. If you haven't played it you haven't learned just how fast you can get killed off by a game.

It's pretty nice for what it is, a homebrew demo. I do agree, the difficulty does seem a tad unfair. I am thinking primarily of the stupid pink ball right after the screen with the snail. (above the tree) I guess I was able to put up with some of it, having played alot of very punishing games and st...

WANTED: beat up but still functional famicom

I am in need of a Famicom. I don't care what kind of shape it's in, as long as it all works. Controllers fully functional would be nice, but even if the buttons are kinda out of whack it's ok. This is for a hacking project- case condition doesn't matter. However, I don't want things like excessive c...

Thanks guys.

@tepples: FreeBasic or Python, problem solved.

@memblers: sounds good, number systems I should be able to figure out without much trouble. Then I'll begin by hacking around with other people's code

@noattack: thanks for the info, I'll look into that too.

No kidding. Just wanted to get some ideas of where to begin. With Applesoft it was pretty obvious where to start, but Apple is like that. (or was...)

Alrighty then, I'll get to it. Thanks guys!

OK, here goes nothing. I have never programmed in assembler before, and the extent of my NES hacking has gone about as far as making a couple NROM mapper eprom carts with ROMS on them from teh internets. I want to learn how to make something of my own for the NES. Where should I start? My current pr...

Bunyboy, you my friend are going to make yourself a big chunk of change if you manage this right. Good work, and good luck! If I had that kind of money to just throw around I would certainly buy one for the price you are offering. Edit: OOO, just saw your website, very cool. I will be checking this ...

Well, one problem is that Famiclones are banned on ebay, only the Famiclones that are NES compatible with 72 pin slots are being sold (ie, yobo) I did manage to find a guy on the Benheck.com forums who had a leftover 60 pin slot from a famiclone that he tore apart to make a handheld unit, so I will ...

Famicom card edge connector

Anybody know where I could get the card edge connector for a famicom cartridge? I don't want to spend lots of money on something like this, if I did I would just take one out of a regula famicom or a famiclone, or go on a wild goose hunt tearing apart various old NROM games looking for an official c...

I have also discovered that the PlayChoice 10 will ouput in a special inverted RGB instead of a standard RGB. So, what sorts of games would be affected by this slight pallete change? And what games would be messed up with the color emphasis? Just some examples would be nice. I am looking to RGB mod ...
