Re: Finally assembled my SNES Music Player

Computers crash. It happens. Now it works again. I don't care enough about the how and why to ask the hoster. Now let's get back to topic.

Re: Finally assembled my SNES Music Player

It works, tested it right now. Perhaps it was temporary down.

Finally assembled my SNES Music Player

Took me some time to get all the parts together, but it was sooo worth it.

Re: Flashing the cart in-circuit

I've been looking at the blackcat USB device and my question is ... What additional parts are needed on the cartridge to connect to the flash device? Since the parts we are using are parallel, I am wondering how that would work and then how the device parts would interfere with the Snes normal oper...

Re: Flashing the cart in-circuit

I've been working on my own flashcart for some time now. I'm still gathering ideas and information. The USB flashable cart was an idea I once had, but I already found a very cheap USB-Stick/SD-Card interface which easily hooks up to any 8-Bit CPU and does FAT32 in hardware. So that would be a much b...

Re: Flashing the cart in-circuit

They're called 28F320J5 and 28F640J5. They're both 5V parts and parallel. The 64-MBit version is available for $5. For programming it, you could use a Blackcat USB. We could also use a small ATMEGA to programm it over the CFI. Wouldn't it be nice to have a small USB-Plug on the side of your cart and...

Re: Flashing the cart in-circuit

What part are you using ? There are flashroms that can be written in-circuit and some that can't. So my guess is switching to a part that can. I know a good one which is available in 32/64-Mbit sizes. It supports CFI (Common Flash Interface) so it's really easy to programm.

Re: Converting a Lorom pcb cart to a hirom pcb cart

Woops, you're right. You could do it with 1 of these and just tie the 2 output buses together, then use a single transistor NOT gate as a 1-of-2 decoder to drive the /OE's. Considering the alternatives, MAX4551's are ~$4 each and you'd need 2. A cheap PIC is going to be a couple bucks, and then you...

Re: Converting a Lorom pcb cart to a hirom pcb cart

So all you did was make a switch to bank those 4 points in the earlier posts? I am planning on making a cart myself. Maybe we could collaborate? I have a very good CAD person who designs my pcb's. If nothing else, I'd love to see how you implemented the switch. With an i.c. I think you mentioned. M...

Re: Converting a Lorom pcb cart to a hirom pcb cart

Has this been tested yet? I could easily send you some mask roms (both Hi and Lo) or a tsop to dip converter. Very curious if this works! It works. It's a Hirom cart and I tested with Claymates (Hirom) and Lagoon (Lorom), both run perfectly. Did you re-wire the mask rom socket to a standard EPROM f...

There's still a lot of them available, if you need some.

Re: Can the lower voltage flash roms be used in place of 5v

For 32/64 MBit I use Intel Strata Flash parts 28F320J5 and 28F640J5. They were produced from 2007 (fairly new) for some years and it's not only 5V tolerant, it's a 5V part. They are available in SSOP package, so no need for adapters as it's fairly easy to solder by hand. The 64Mbit version is just 5...

Re: Can the lower voltage flash roms be used in place of 5v

I found a good one - it's the MAX3001E. It even does bi-shifting (shifting in both directions) and supports everything from 1.2V to 5V.

Re: Can the lower voltage flash roms be used in place of 5v

Right, but first check the datasheet if you even need it. I think there was a 8x level shifter, I'll search for it and tell you the part no. if I find it.

Re: Can the lower voltage flash roms be used in place of 5v

The 4050 is a good part for this, it can shift 6 lines at once.
