Thanks! This is written in C, right?zzo38 wrote:I don't know if it helps you, but here it is, a program to swap pins in a ROM image file (you can only swap address pins with address pins and data pins with data pins, and only 8-bit data is supported, and you must use a raw ROM image without a header)

Looks interesting!MottZilla wrote:Maybe degaussing will help? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degaussing
Now, I don't have a desoldering gun. What should I use to degauss it (I have a desoldering iron, but it's not a weller-type, and I have very little money to spend on a professional degausser)?

Re: Compare NES/Famicom cartridges for loading ROM images
CF might be electronically better but it's a dying format. Keep that in mind. In addition to this (which i agree with), keep in mind that the Sega Genesis was also electronically better than the NES/SNES and it died. So did firewire vs. USB, and Betamax vs. VHS, and laserdisc vs. VHS, and IBM's mod...

Re: non-working Action 52
howdy, so I have this and it doesn't play. I've cleaned it thoroughly enough I'm pretty certain there is something physically wrong with the cart. In a top loader and cic-disabled toaster it's a blank solid color screen. in a stock toaster it flashes a solid color screen. the wrapping on the two ca...

Re: NES controller pin size?
Does anyone know the pitch of the pin inside the NES controller plug in? And if they can be bought? I tried a 1.15mm square post (too big) and the .65mm post was too small. Thanks! What I used was a nice, kind of thick paperclip. It fit perfectly. I am totally serious. I made a NES controller -> US...

Re: u.s. expansion audios
This brings up an interesting question: Why would nintendo include the square channels on the MMC5? Was it just for the famicom games that used the chip?
Or everdrive n8. I have two systems modded for that.rainwarrior wrote: Some people mod their NES to play expansion audio from the PowerPak, though.

Dark spot on my CRT. Any suggestions?
I have a 2005 Toshiba CRT television that has served me faithfully. However, I have recently been getting a wierd dark spot near the top left corner of the display. Does anyone here know what exactly this is/a possible fix? This TV isn't that old, and it's not burn-in in the traditional sense, altho...

Re: Can i make my Top Loader controller's cable a bit softer
The PCB traces near the cart connector are pretty thin. I've seen people with issues because the traces going to the cart connector corroded away. You might have had some really weak connectons, and by playing around with it disturbed them to the point they broke completely. Just a guess.... No, I ...

What does that trimmer cap on the NES (and famicom) board do
If you look at a toaster NES, down by the expansion port, there's a little green trimmer pot. You don't even have to open the system to see it. Does anyone know what this thing does? On the Commodore VIC-20 I have in a corner of my basement, there's one that relates to the color output. Does the pot...

It came from florida Not only the sunshine state, but also crazy high humidity year round = high level of rust Hell, the reset button didn't even work. I broke it by shorting something trying to fix the reset button. I still have it so I can do what I recall someone doing to his famicom: http://wya...

Re: Can i make my Top Loader controller's cable a bit softer
I've had Famicom controllers be stiff like this, while others are nicer, flexible rubber. His description of solid-core cat5 is not far off. They certainly aren't designed like that nor common, but I have found controllers that have become like that. Thanks. I knew it couldn't be just me! your cord...

Can i make my Top Loader controller's cable a bit softer?
I got a Top Loader in really bad shape about two years ago, with two NES-039 controllers. I love the way they feel, but they have these cables so stiff they feel like solid-core cat5. It's really dreadful trying to get it in a comfortable position. Is there anything I can do to make this cable a bit...

Re: Can I do a 'byteswap' to avoid remapping pins?
SNES just so happened to work out that by rearranging data you could make a 27C801 almost compatible. NES doesn't work out that way. However you could use new pcbs from INL to avoid any rewiring/bending of pins. Sorry to bump this, but I had no idea this site existed and it will really make my life...
