It's a Japanese copy, and the mask rom is damaged due to some corrosion on some of the address pins. It was part of an as-is bundle of Japanese games I got for $25 that included: Seiken Densetsu 2 (which needs serious cleaning and the contacts tinned with solder to prevent further corrosion, I'm thi...

so, basically, take the rom file, copy it, then remove the first 2,097,125 bytes, use the resulting file to pad the original rom to 4,194,304 bytes, repeating as necessary? Actually, looking at another thread, it seems like how one does it is to cut the rom to the nearest multiple 2 Megabits (24 Meg...

Dual Mask Rom cart to Single Mask Rom donor
Is this possible?
I'd like to put Clock Tower in a spare Japanese copy of Donkey Kong Country 2.
The rom file has an odd size, can I just repeat the rom to fill a 32mbit TSOP package?

Well, I have a spare unrom from a baseball game, so I can try it both ways. Regardless, it will be a fun experiment. Upon further investigation, it looks like this hack really does require the mapper: http://dvdtranslations.eludevisibility.org/portopia/ReadMe-DvD_Translations-The_Portopia_Serial_Mur...

the translation changes a LOT of stuff in the game.
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/764/
The rom had to be expanded to accommodate the translation, and it won't work in an emulator if it can't play After Burner due to it really needing that mapper.

LH2311 Mask ROM and 28 pin EPROM
I'm trying to use a sunsoft game to play a romhack (english translation of Portopia Serial Murders) that requires that specific mapper. The PRG rom is a simple 28 pin drop and solder, but the CHR rom on the board is a 32 pin 128KB rom with the following specs: http://i.imgur.com/QYSZF.png I need to ...

Portopia Renzoku Satsujin Jiken (Japan) does NOT have a mapper normally, but the english translated romhack requires the sunsoft mapper #68 (did I say 63 before? sorry) If your cart can play After Burner, it works: http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/profile.php?id=326 another game that uses that mapper,...

I had just clipped the /ce pin on the original mask rom, I wasn't aware you'd need a pull up resistor on an unattached pin. regardless, the case was glued shut early this week, so I'm not getting inside it again without damaging it further than I did opening it in the first place. Those famicom cart...

I just tried to switch the /ce pins on FF3 and it doesn't work. The game boots and locks up as soon as it tries to read the intro text from the ROM. Severing the +5V line from the original mask rom fixed it though. Looks like even if the /ce pin is switched off, the cart still attempts to read from ...

Alright, sounds cool. I'll draw up a pretty schematic for free reference. This battery thing seems to be a fairly common question and even with 2 days of searching I still couldn't find all the information I needed, so it might help to have a standard reference document in one place. Do you guys hav...
