Re: 2A03 Puritans Album (source code)
I wonder, I've had this idea to make a cartridge that contained covers of existing songs, but I'm not a programmer or musically inclined in the slightest. My idea would be to display a small "album art" picture (let's say 128*128) while it displayed composer, musician, and other informatio...

I just wanted to know if I was the only one with the problem.

Re: 2A03 Puritans compilation album
I can't seem to order the carts, it takes me to a "please wait" screen and sits there.

Re: Cookie Clicker
What if someone gave you one of those Famiclones so that you could test it on? Assuming you can get a PowerPak or Everdrive to work on the thing.
Do Famiclone to NES converters exist?

Re: Cookie Clicker
I remember you mentioning that you added mouse support for this game, in the form of the SNES mouse with an NES converter. I've been meaning to ask, isn't there a Chinese bootleg that not only resembles a computer, it also has a mouse? I think the NES version of Microsoft 98 or whatever is one of th...

Re: Use of color + Feasibility of NES Retro City Rampage
You're right, many NES games had to be very carefully designed so that they looked good and avoided flicker as much as possible. Ninja Gaiden uses reasonably sized sprites, but flicker isn't all to common. This works due to clever game design. On a similar note, while hated by many, Ninja Gaiden 3 c...

Re: Use of color + Feasibility of NES Retro City Rampage
I meant to say 64 tiles, not 32. For some reason I suspected that the CHR banks held 128 tiles as opposed to 256. And I heard that MMC3 can switch out, at the very least, one quarter of the CHR. The MMC1 had to switch out entire pages, which didn't seem very efficient at all. Keep in mind that this ...

Re: Use of color + Feasibility of NES Retro City Rampage
* Sprite library size (banked in four groups of 64, so no arbitrary mixing-and-matching), both for cars and people I might have read it wrong, but doesn't MMC5 allow you to double the sprite CHR if you're using 8*16 sprite mode? That way you have twice the sprites, and you separate those sprites in...

Re: Use of color + Feasibility of NES Retro City Rampage
I think RCR might be tricky to get accurate even on a per-color level. It seems to use a true yellow, which wasn't possible on the NES, unless my eyes deceive me. Here is a map made by BriPro himself as part of a contest. I think this map is quite big, possibly even too big to fit on the MMC5 withou...

Re: Cookie Clicker
The two instances I mentioned being "tricky" are early in the game, you can see them within a few minutes of YouTube gameplay. The Toasty looks like a larger sprite that's well above the 8 tile limit, unless you render it using a hybrid between background tiles and sprites for the edges. T...

Re: Cookie Clicker
I'm happy to have found someone that shares my sentiments about Kirby's Adventure, I like you. Aside from his own ROM beta, would it be possible to recreate RCR to some extent on the NES? I know for example you can't have hundreds of objects moving around, as the NES is limited in display, and the N...

Re: Cookie Clicker
@tokumaru: Or your game would look like Kirby's Adventure, a surprisingly monochromatic game that came out towards the end of the NES' life. The irony is that there are artists out there who try to emulate NES graphics and have no problem, but to make the exact same graphics for the NES will twist t...

Re: Cookie Clicker
Man, I wish I knew how to program NES games, then I could make a port based on... that one game where one of the characters is some goat lady called Toriel. Graphics seem simple enough to work on an NES. Regardless, good luck with the project. And speaking of "dumbing down graphics to look like...

Re: My NSF Covers
Here's a challenge for ya. Thunder Force IV: Metal Squad covered 2A03 only. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zipt6QSNRQQ I would suggest using the DPCM for the lead (such as a sample of a guitar strum filled in with bassline samples), though you could probably get better results with a square lead. J...

Re: Chip Maestro: A MIDI to NES music cart
It doesn't sound like a triangle kick, and they're obviously samples to some degree. They remind me of Ultimate Stuntman's samples, which were actually 7-bit samples.
