Dissertation - Compositional Techniques in Sunsoft NES Music
I am pleased to announce that my doctoral dissertation is now available for perusal or purchase through ProQuest . Some forum members, composers, and other knowledgeable people contributed to this project. I have spoken at two conferences on the subject of the chiptune style as influenced by NES sou...

Re: Connecting Multiple Game Systems to HDMI TV
I am familiar with switches like that with multiple RCA inputs and an RCA output. That is good for the earlier game systems. I want to connect others that have different a/v connections. The original XBox has a component cable and the XBox 360 later model has an HDMI. So to hook all of these to my T...

Re: Connecting Multiple Game Systems to HDMI TV
To clarify: I don't want to modify my game systems to output HDMI or video or audio quality better than they were originally. I want to hook them up so they can work on my newer TV that has HDMI inputs. I've looked into hubs that take composite video in and output in HDMI. Such devices don't improve...

Connecting Multiple Game Systems to HDMI TV
Do any members on this forum have a TV and game setup with multiple game systems hooked up to a TV with HDMI input? I would like to find a cabinet that is designed to hold between 5 and 8 game systems and a TV. The systems I am considering are the Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, Playstation 1, Playst...

How to Best Disassemble NES PRG-ROM
Currently I am disassembling the PRG-ROM data of an NES ROM file by reading the file in a hex editor, pasting the values into a text editor, and using a table of 6502 operands to translate the values into the corresponding 6502 instructions. The results appear accurate, but it takes a long time even...

Fastest Scroll Speed
Which NES or Famicom game has the fastest scroll speed? I know that many games regulate how fast a character can move to account for the preparation of upcoming nametable tiles. I'm thinking there may be games where the nametables don't need to be updated all that much and maybe it could be possible...

Surround Sound System for Older Games
I am looking to purchase a complete surround sound system, but am having difficulty determining which products support Dolby Pro Logic 1 and 2 decoders. I want to be able to hear audio as far back as the Super NES across 4 or more speakers. There are some games here: http://www.gamnesia.com/articles...

Filling Nametables: Scrolling and Metatiles
I am learning about how to compress and decompress screen data. I am confused though about how to store the data in ROM and how to decompress it using RAM. Below are some questions and some statements I want to make sure are accurate: 1. Can you list an NES game, published or homebrew, and whether i...

Re: NES/Famicom Music at VG Music Conference
My presentation used visuals and audio to show what actually occurs on each sound channel of the NES and Famicom to produce the sounds and effects that are associated with chiptunes. I included audio that was slowed down to demonstrate the rapid arpeggiation borrowed from Commodore 64 music composit...
