Re: an NROM to a cart with WRAM
Hi qbardq. ATM I was hoping to avoid patching the rom; the source is not released and I haven't approached Neil Baldwin (though he seems like a nice guy that would share). Also my skill level with NES programming is at the very bottom of the learning curve; well sort of, have been banging out 8bit f...

Re: an NROM to a cart with WRAM
@ tepples Thank you very much! This is very much what I was looking for. For the moment I want to find a HW solution. Just getting started with NES software; not too different from Atari, aside from NES' memory mapping architecture (very different!) Had not considered the impact of the MMC in my que...

Re: an NROM to a cart with WRAM
OK, I did see that noted on the nrom page of the NESDEV wiki. I'm guessing that it being the only title, it would be VERY difficult to lay my hands on one for a donor (and more valuable to a collector). So I was going through the SxROM page on the wiki, thinking: !. That it might be possible to use ...

an NROM to a cart with WRAM
Hi all. can some one point me to some docs or advise me. There is a homebrew, cajoNES, that is: 32K PRG ROM, 8K CHR ROM, so NROM right? The author, Neil Baldwin, also has a version that uses 8K WRAM for saves. I was checking out the iNES header in Nestopia and it lists the mapper as 0 and has Save m...

Re: MMC1,2,3,4/Sunsoft-5B reproduction circuit boards. INL-R
Right, so the Anago software that I ported does not have SRAM read function, and the Unagi software that does have that option is not finding the board. Not sure what's going on there, and I can't test it on Windows. I know I read it somewhere, may have been the Unagi readme. At this point I've bee...

Re: MMC1,2,3,4/Sunsoft-5B reproduction circuit boards. INL-R
Yogi, Using the original Kazzo board with the original firmware and client software, you could read and write SRAM on unmodified NES carts. Based on those reports, and the assumption that INL's programmer is 100% backwards-compatible with the Kazzo, you should be able to buy one of his programmers ...

Re: NROM larger than 32K?
Yogi, This community loves to necro-bump. This thread was last posted to like two weeks ago :) Interestingly enough, this technique is coming back in the FPGA world for complex address decoding thanks to having LUTs everywhere. Haha, yea I suffer from 'ol' fart' flashbacks every now and then ;) It'...

Re:
No logic would be required, just three ROMs - PRG, CHR, and the extra ROM. The extra ROM would be basically 9th bit ('enable') for every byte of PRG, like D0 of the extra ROM connected to OE or CS of the PRG ROM. Actually, it starts to look not that impractical, because price of the ROM chip is com...

Re: MMC1,2,3,4/Sunsoft-5B reproduction circuit boards. INL-R
Thanks for the reply, I went ahead and ordered last night, just too excited! I been reading all I can find on the forums about the Kazzo and gathered that it could access the Bat backed ram; I guess I wasn't too clear with my thinking, it's not really a factor of the cart but the Kazzo. At any rate,...

Re: MMC1,2,3,4/Sunsoft-5B reproduction circuit boards. INL-R
1. Is it possible to dump/load save states on your V1; would you consider that as a option on the V2 design? Do you mean the SRAM that is battery backed? Yes. Neil's ROMs are native trackers, so song data is saved on the cart. Being able to dump/load the song data allows composing on a PC and/or th...

Re: MMC1,2,3,4/Sunsoft-5B reproduction circuit boards. INL-R
The PowerPak seems out of production (ATM or forever?) On IRC, bunnyboy told me it should be back in a couple weeks. Thanks for the news, been check'n the site weekly for a while :) Though I will be getting one at some point, my hopes are for a multiple NES setup, kind of crazy 'NES band', so more ...

Re: MMC1,2,3,4/Sunsoft-5B reproduction circuit boards. INL-R
First off new here and got to say THANK YOU! INL. Your flashcart is just what I've been looking for. WaHoo!! Just a little background: I'm coming from a chiptune point of view. For a while Neil Baldwin has been producing some great homebrews for the chiptune crowd, and a few of his titles are design...
