Re: PentaSound Chip and music

Exactly! In fact, most of the games I'm planning to make will be based around the fictional computers I've created. I won't make emulators for them though. For me, it'd be easier to make each game have its own executable. I don't think this idea should be tackled only if the homebrew scene dies off....

Re: Horror Discussion Thread

Well, then there's no other way to make this work. You could make it a cutscene, but it wouldn't feel as climatic, in my opinion.

Re: Graphics Challenge

That was fast. Is this what it looks like in Photoshop, or in an NES emulator? Any chance you can share the nametable and palette data...if you layered sprites on top, it could be improved a bit. This is how it looks like in Photoshop. Converting the graphics into a .chr file, making nametables and...

Re: Graphics Challenge

Well, I did some stuff in Photoshop, following tokumaru's advice and these are the results: Sega Master System http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/AlienX97/Sega%20Master%20System%2032%20Colors_zpscbffypxn.png Although doesn't the Sega Master System have one palette for sprites and palette for bac...

Re: Horror Discussion Thread

how are you still supposed to lose in this situation? Because if you cannot lose, there's no need to make it a gameplay situation. Well, the thing is taking place in Nancy's room. If the player acts instinctively and runs out the door, showing that they still fear Freddy, you can have him appearing...

Re: Horror Discussion Thread

It's just that you cannot really do this when you intend to create a game modeled specifically after the original movie. You could maybe do this with an original storyline based on the game. But not when you try to replay the first movie. Actually, it can work pretty well. Look at games like Clock ...

Re: PentaSound Chip and music

On a Yamaha FM synth, as the modulator's amplitude falls to 0, the output becomes a plain sine wave, similar to what you get when you run a sawtooth wave through a lowpass filter. It's in fact the 1x->1x patch Yeah, although the patch sounds a little differently than a saw wave, so I decided not to...

Re: PentaSound Chip and music

I didn't expect a technical analysis of this. :D But, yeah, I wanted this to be somewhat realistic, so I basically took what the SID chip had to offer, strip down some of its features, added two more channels and there you go. It's interesting how everyone was attracted to FM Synthesis at the time, ...

Re: "Batman" for the NES

I know I'm bumping an old thread, but still. I don't think Batman for NES is that far from the movie. It has some major differences, but there are still a lot of elements from the movie. The stages mostly follow locations from the movie. The first stage are the streets of Gotham, the second level is...

PentaSound Chip and music

I really like retro consoles, computers and hardware in general. The old 8 and 16-bit systems have all kinds of restrictions, which in a way defines them and gives them character. Sometimes I like to make up my own retro systems, with their own quirks and make stuff with their limitations. This soun...

Re: Horror Discussion Thread

Oh, boy... This started out as just a little device to meet people, who like the stuff I do, make new friends and look at where we went. Oh, well, at least the conversation is somewhat meaningful and not just a bunch of shitposting. I think Minecraft was supposed to be survival horror-ish. I don't r...

Re: Horror Discussion Thread

I really want to know how comparable to a computer the human mind is. I mean, you have short term memory, which is ram, long term memory, which is like a hard drive... Getting into a coma is like crashing? (I'm not sure how you'd get out then...) Okay, I'll stop my dumb talking. I just wonder how C...

Re: Horror Discussion Thread

I don't see it being so obvious. There is nothing really horrifying in the Castlevania series. If the presence of creatures like vampires or ghosts makes it instantly "horror" then you're right... but then at least 60% of video games, probably 80%, are horror themed. That's one confusing ...

Re: Obvious ports of NES games

Mega Man: The Wily Wars is a collection of the first three Mega Man games for the Sega Genesis. Although there are some graphical changes, the gameplay is pretty much exactly the same as in the NES versions.

Re: Horror Discussion Thread

I know it's considered to be the best sequel. But I think the whole setting in the hospital/care center/mental institution creates a completely different atmosphere than the original one. It doesn't have that whole suburbs feeling anymore. Also, this is the movie that started the nightmares with th...
