Re: Having problem putting in power/RF/RCA outside board

You delaminated and tore away the copper around where it used to be soldered. Your best workaround will be to follow the traces and solder to the next component. Alternatively, I've had luck scratching away the resist and surface-mount soldering on a new wire, but I wouldn't bother for the signals ...

Re: Replacing the lockout chip

You're more or less talking about installing a switch to play only one cartridge. I think there is more. Specifically unlicensed games. People reported several not working with top loaders which is missing it anyways. I believe Action 52 is one. I do collect unlicensed games so yeah, it was of inte...

Having problem putting in power/RF/RCA outside board

I was working on a mod that required me to remove the RF/RCA/power box and I'm not sure why it's being a butt. Basically I needed to extend the outside board away from the main connections so I was gonna run wires from the original 5 pins on the outside board to the NES board connector holes, seemed...

Re: Replacing the lockout chip

While I understand the appeal, there are two problems: 1- The CIC only checks the status of the pin when power is first turned on or when you press the reset button, so this toggle wouldn't let you switch between "CIC causes the NES to reboot over and over while you fiddle with the connector&q...

Re: Replacing the lockout chip

Actually, I'm just doing something silly I suppose, but I wanted to position the lockout chip, pin 4 up and connect it to a switch so it's variable rather than obliterated.

Ok, so the CIC on this SMB is the same, but is the pinout the same or do I have to kinda rework that situation to fit the NES instead?

Re: Replacing the lockout chip

Honestly? I had no idea games had lockout chips I could use to replace the one in the NES. I have cut a few boards and looked at them just now (was doing something else in them) and I do not see any 3193A or even 3193 (without the A) chips on the board. It is just SMB/Duck Hunt. Any suggestions on w...

Replacing the lockout chip

Ok, so the famicom adapter has a lockout chip, the NES system has a lockout chip, am I able to use the famicom adapters lockout chip to replace the original NES one? I know, I don't know need it lol.. but I'm trying to do something and I'd previously removed the 4th pin and it came OUT of the IC so ...

Re: My Retron 5 arrived today!

Audio enhancements are pretty unimpressive imo. I got this thing as a gift, my report is the edge connectors won't last the test of time like their original counterparts. A lot of people are reporting bent pins already within 3-4 days. I built some passthrough carts so I can insert a cart one time a...

Re: SNES Edge Connector

erm so nobody has found something viable on Digikey? I have an SNES game genie I can use but I was just curious if I could.. not do that. lol.. I already made an NES and Genesis passthrough carts. The NES I used the back end of the NES's original 72-pin connector, the part that connects to the syste...

SNES Edge Connector

I'm looking for something I don't have to harvest from say, a game genie or an SNES itself. I was wondering if there are any on Digikey or similar site that people had any luck with. Just looking for a decent priced solution for a NEW connector. Making a passthrough cart for Retron 5 to avert from b...
