Re: How are processors designed today?
You can make computers with any kind of switch. Mechanical switches , electromagnetic relays , even water has been used to create a computer. Usually we're talking aobut digital logic, but it's also possible to build an analog computer that can make use of the whole transfer function. I've spent a ...

Re: Gasp! Smwcentral is actually improving SMW's sprite eng
A lot of SNES (and NES games) do this weird thing where they can move arms and legs by simply changing a tile. ... Oh, I think I get it. This is a humorous remark, coming from the context of how you like to do things in an extreme way what with tile rotations and actual limb joints, whereas basical...

Re: Gasp! Smwcentral is actually improving SMW's sprite eng
I've never hacked DKC before. What is "a DKC-style VRAM routine"? Is it anything like what I describe in this post ? My system separates sprite VRAM into strips of 8 16x16 tiles for each object. The first two are static/common objects, the remaining (14, is it?) are for enemies or anythin...

Re: Famicom Strider hardware
... How is one to protect oneself from being sold a knockoff or "pirate" version of a classic cartridge game. I doubt many vendors will let you open it up and look inside before buying. And even if you did, is there any universal way to immediately say "Oh yeah that's not original at ...

Re: Gasp! Smwcentral is actually improving SMW's sprite eng
You mean to tell me that it couldn't do any of that in the first place? And people thought that was a good platform for hacking on? I would have picked DKC before SMW in a heart beat. I would be surprised if the choice of SMW as a platform had to do with anything other than popularity. Quick google...

Re: what old school games do you still play
It's not "old-school" (not yet, let it age a few more years) but I play Halo: CE all the way through, at least 4 times a year. I love that game; I know it inside and out. Have you pressed X to flip <need a string entry here> yet? I remember looking up every last hidden or glitchy thing I ...

Re: Favorite Final Fantasy
Turn-based combat can still be challenging in all sorts of ways. I don't know if anyone here's heard of it, but I've been playing a recent Sega Genesis release called Pier Solar lately, combat system somewhat similar to Final Fantasy, and it's been kicking my ass more than just a bit. Most Final Fan...

Re: Favorite Final Fantasy
Played 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and X (yes I know I'm missing a big one there). Personal ranking best to worst would go something like (5/7), 4, (8/6), X. 6 was fine but I'm just not crazy about it like everyone else seems to be. So many characters and summons I ended up not caring about any of them. I don't r...

Re: what old school games do you still play
I guess I've kinda got Tetris. I can still enjoy a nice long time playing any well-implemented version of classic tetris, though I admittedly have more fun with the 6-player online vs tetris they've got out there. If I could eliminate the latency from that I'd be in heaven. Tetris is a game that MUS...

Re: Nice Guy
one thing I hated more than anything where the $250+ Beats headphones. There's no concievable reason other than branding to buy those, unless you're allergic to treble and you desperately want lower-quality sound. Audio quality and the entire music industry is another thread of all its own. Suffice...

Re: Nice Guy
Where schools more hostile in the 90's and early 2000's? That's what I'm implying alright. Whether there's evidence to back that up is another question. Some idiot would have had to start it. I know this is starting to sound like self-glorification, but I don't get "peer pressure" either....

How old are you anyway? 27 I can't say that any of them really understand me, in that they have damned smartphones and are big on overpriced Nike socks and modern video games and "popular" stuff that goes away in one week. I consider myself to be fairly old fashioned, in that I (obviously...

Re: Nice Guy
Why do so many people here seem to have trouble with being bullied and whatnot? Is NESDev the ideal place for people like this to go? I'm not saying I have a problem with this, it's just that I haven't ever actually really had this problem and I'm surprised everyone else has. I certainty don't have...
