Re: SNES preservation project is dead
This is priority mail with an 8-14 day window for delivery. We're on day 40 now. In my experience, the quoted delivery windows have fine print that says something to the effect that it's only an estimate and doesn't factor in customs delays and so forth. Here's DHL's: Transit times are indicative. ...

Re: 100 PAL games held up in USPS for 1 1/2 months; any idea
it's cleared customs. That's what the first 21-day wait was doing. The package goes from DHL to CBP, and it doesn't show up in USPS' systems again until after CBP clears it and hands it to one of their central hubs. I've had packages go through customs when both departing the source country and ent...

Re: anyone making a fpga snes with hdmi?
Probably not, unless you're timing something specific with a clock. Like I think we're talking about losing a second every 20 minutes? Assuming my math is correct, you'd lose 60 frames (1 second's worth) in about 10 mins and 12 seconds. It's a 0.16% difference. Even still, Unless you're a speedrunn...

Re: Arduino based projects for the nes?
A few years ago I hacked up an Arduino sketch and an NES controller so I could stream it midi data over USB and and have it correlate to NES button presses (ie C = left, C# = right, D = up, etc). I used it to trigger the powerpak NSF player to jump tracks in an NSF file so that I could synchronize t...

Re: Thoughts of RetroUSB's AVS?
I wasn't able to figure out whether or not it had 3.3V <-> 5.0V buffers, since traditional NES carts are 5V devices. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxrYjL6f_wQ Kevtris did a teardown / analysis video not long ago, I'm pretty sure he covers it. I'm at work now and can't be bothered to watch the hou...

Re: Thoughts of RetroUSB's AVS?
Very happy with it as a gaming platform. Performance (in terms of lag) on my TV was noticeably better than using a regular NES with the composite input. Never noticed any glaring inaccuracies or issues with actual games. The scoreboard feature is pretty fun. I currently hold the number 1 score on th...

Re: A cautionary tale about MS Sans Serif and Windows fonts
I remember this nightmare from back when I started at my current job. Turns out my (and some of my new co-workers') PCs were initially provisioned with a larger monitor than we ended up getting at our desks. Certain legacy software was totally unusable because any dialog box would be rendered in suc...

Re: Megaman 2 GB no bgm request
I can't offer any help but your post, specifically this part: the background music is rather awful - too high pitched and just not well done at all. ...reminded me of a conversation I once had with a friend about this game/soundtrack. His theory was that something got messed up in the game's music e...

Someone has "solved" the Zapper issue with modern LCDs
http://hackaday.com/2016/08/30/tricking-duck-hunt-to-see-a-modern-lcd-tv-as-crt/ Using a Wiimote as a position sensor, a raspberry pi, an arduino, and an LED, someone has "solved" the Zapper + Modern LCD issue: [Charlie] has attacked this problem with some more recent technology and a bit ...

Re: Bandai Mega gamepad - looking for help!
I was able to get the memory mode working, somewhat. I fired up a controller test rom and was able to get it to record and play back some sequences but with a bunch of limitations. In the case where you press A or B first on setting memory, only A and B presses will be remembered. This was a bit con...

Whoa! Thanks Myask!
I was kind of wondering if "Game 1" had any practical use, it's cool that it can be used to set the autofire rate.

Re: Bandai Mega gamepad - looking for help!
Thanks for the suggestion koitsu, I shot a few tweets at Pat. Hopefully he can help. ccovell, I found the video linked in that TC article already. To get into the "Top Secret" mode and unlock the game&watch style game, you have to "beat" Game 1 and press A & B more than 1...

Bandai Mega gamepad - looking for help!
I found one of these at a local game store last week: http://i.imgur.com/AwU8Mxfh.jpg I can't find a manual or any sort of guide on how to use it online. I've fumbled around with it and figured out the basic stuff (rapidfire, slowmo, etc) but I can't make any sense of the most intriguing feature, &q...

Re: Are new pin connectors worth it?
I use my NES in a live show environment, and it has to be able to withstand some bumps and nudges without the NES failing. Previously I had resorted to bending the pins on stock connectors to strengthen the grip, but even then it if the NES got knocked it would crash or reset. The Blinking Light Win...
