Super Mario Bros title in emulators

I was just recently reminded of something I had been wondering about for a long time. For as long as I can recall, every time I have ever played the classic Super Mario Bros on an emulator, (as best as I can recall, dating all the way back to when we used NESticle,) it NEVER displayed the title card...

Re: Is there any way to compile a NES rom without ASM?

I'm... honestly surprised at this. I thought that *maybe* someone might have something that is enough for a proof-of-concept but with no weight behind it.

Is there any way to compile a NES rom without ASM?

I just had a stray thought.
Is it possible to create a new NES rom without learning assembly to do it?

Well I suppose of course it is *technically* possible, but I mean with existing tools. Like, has anyone made a program that can create a new ROM from modern code or custom scripts or such thing?

Re: Animated water tile

I think this may be the last I am going to work on these water tiles for a while. I mean, last after I take into account any final comments. I want to have at least two different tiles, one for more-turbulent water like rivers, and one for less-turbulent-but-still-not-still water. This of course of ...

Re: 2nd attempt: Isometric excercises

Well I guess you already thought of it, but as I was reading you talking about having the pull-ring, my first thought was that it would probably be best drawn as a sprite. That way you could use a slightly different color for it. Help it stick out a bit so the player knows to investigate it. http://...

Re: 2nd attempt: Isometric excercises

It looks MUCH better with those shadows, and using the dark blue with the purple really works out well! (Though honestly I think the purple overall isn't as good as the blue; lavender bricks seem a little unusual. I think the 1C looked best, but that would be hard to get a color that works as well f...

Re: 2nd attempt: Isometric excercises

My thoughts are: what is intractable and collidable? Certainly I can see a back wall that I expect to be solid, and there is a ledge I can see as well. But the main floor looks like it is just design, and I ought to be able to walk everywhere. But can I? Or am I supposed to interact with some of tho...

Re: First attempt at NES graphics, please comment!

Holy wow this thread exploded into a direction I did not expect. On the subject of how these images look on actual hardware, I want to share this interesting video about CGA graphics on a composite signal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niKblgZupOc If you're in a hurry, here is the really fascinati...

Re: CV2 hack graphics

Oh wow, mad props for resurrecting this two-year-old thread; this artwork is beyond incredible! I describe the game I'm working on as a Castlevania II clone, and this artwork is truly inspiring. Honestly I wish I could just take it and use it, but even if I had legal permission to do so, it would lo...

Re: First attempt at NES graphics, please comment!

I hate to be the only negative voice here, but those columns really ought to be flat on the top. I mean, that's what a column is there for: to put stuff on top of it. Even if whatever it once supported is gone, it still ought to be flat on the top, or very clearly broken off. The composition also se...

Re: Animated water tile

Slight tweak to try to make it look less dramatic, and a different tile for more subdued water.

I spend more time making bad art and starting over again than I do making actual good art.

Animated water tile

I've spent all day on this and can't see the forest for the trees. It looks at best "acceptable" but isn't what I really want. Feedback/tweaks/examples/whatevers would be appreciated.
