Re: SA-1 chip pinout
...(256Kx8, guess you meant that; not 512Kx8)... sounds right, and would match with the 5bit RAM bank number in 8Kbyte units, though there are some unused bits in the bank selection register too, so theoretically more RAM would be possible. With only 256Kx8, the "A18" pin would have to be...

Re: SA-1 chip pinout
2Mbyte RAM? Nintendo hasn't used such large RAMs in any SNES cartridges. Biggest should be 128K in a few games, and 512K in Satellaview BIOS (not SA-1 related, it's just the biggest RAM size they have used). Maybe, but SNES developer books states that maximum RAM for SA-1 is 2 Megabyte, so address ...

SA-1 chip pinout
Has anybody got a reliable SA-1 pinout? I'm adding this chip to qwertymodo's EAGLE library and I have a "likely" pinout but I don't know where SRAM A15 to A20 address lines are located. My guess is that in pins 104 to 107 and 81, but not sure at all. Is there any game using SA-1 and 2 Mbyt...

Re: SuperFX GSU-1/GSU-2 pinout
The program is executing in RAM, once when it is started you can eject the boot-cartridge, and replace it by the GSU cartridge. For doing such cartridge swaps: You'll need to get around the anti-eject lever mechanics, and as byuu has pointed out: you'll need to disable the CIC lock-out in the conso...

Re: SuperFX GSU-1/GSU-2 pinout
I created a google doc survey that can be used to keep track of date codes and other chip information, that way it will be easier to maintain the list (and create statistic plots if enough data is gathered) So feel free to add new data at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHYxRW...

Re: MAD-1, MAD-2, MAD-R differences?
As I posted some days ago, there are some other cartridges with MAD-2, such as Drift King Shutokou Battle 2 (board SHVC-2K3X-10) which can be found by less than 4USD on eBay. As for Mario Kart, the first version released in Spain bak in 1993 has not any MAD-2; however, the NINTENDO CLASSICS version ...

Re: SuperFX GSU-1/GSU-2 pinout
Not sure what all there is to glean. I've pretty much gotten all the timings down for that chip, even down to the 16-byte stripe filling of the 256-byte instruction cache. The differences between multiplication speeds and such between GSU-1 and GSU-2 are well documented. And where is all those docu...

Re: SNES cartridge PCB thickness
Ok, I updated my board outlines. I had the wrong card edge pitch (I was using 2.54mm, it's actually 2.50mm), which I've fixed, and I added in manufacturing tolerances to the outline so there shouldn't be any more issues with the notches being too tight. I also mitered the card edge and beefed up th...

Re: SNES cartridge PCB thickness
Hey, to anyone who is using my library, magno just informed me I screwed up the board outline. I'm trying to get it sorted out. Also, if anybody who has made additions to my library could send me their updated version, I'll merge any additions along with the outline adjustment and put out an update...

Re: SuperFX GSU-1/GSU-2 pinout
Well, I just finished measure the GSU-1A and MARIO Chip and added it to qwertymodo's EAGLE library. The pin pitch is 0.65mm and pin width 0.35mm. The dimensions are: http://imageshack.us/a/img641/4101/mariogsu1.th.png I will compare this size with GSU-1 but my feeling is that all three chips have th...

Re: SuperFX GSU-1/GSU-2 pinout
No, I meant, going by the YYWW date codes, GSU-1A is older than GSU-1. That's strange, but I would tend to trust on the date codes there. Ah, ok. It's strange indeed that GSU-1A is older than GSU-1. Btw. just for curiosity, do you know if there are differences in the pinouts (between the 100pin MC1...

Re: SuperFX GSU-1/GSU-2 pinout
One small difference is that MC1 is using the SNES master clock, and the GSUs are having their own oscillators on the cartridge PCB. The clock input should be 21.4MHz (?) in either case, but maybe there's a small difference on the clock voltages.). Yes, I just checked that a few minutes ago; GSU-1A...

Re: SuperFX GSU-1/GSU-2 pinout
I can't remember where I read it, but I'm pretty sure some opcode was faulty under certain conditions and that was fixed in some revision.tepples wrote:Microcode changes are likely. In fact, one thing Argonaut liked to do was customize the instruction set for each application.

Re: SuperFX GSU-1/GSU-2 pinout
Hyarion and me are keeping a very interesting conversation about SuperFX by email, maybe we could keep talking about it here. As I told him, I think GSU2 and GSU2-SP1 have some more differences than those related to the package. My guess is: * Not much sense in starting a new fabrication process to ...

Re: SuperFX GSU-1/GSU-2 pinout
My own GSU specs are here, http://nocash.emubase.de/fullsnes.htm#snescartgsunprogrammablerisccpuakasuperfxmariochip10games Most of the info was extracted from "book2.pdf" from 1995 which contains 190 pages with GSU info, including memory map and width of the ROM/RAM bank registers. It doe...
