Speaking of LEDs... http://www.fybertech.com/nes/nes_blueled.jpg The camera doesn't even capture how intense and rich blue the new LED shows up as, but it's pretty nice. My question is though, is there a resistor on down the line somewhere? One would think there would be, to keep from burning out th...

It would seem I made my wire jungle obsolete today, since I finally got with the times and made an actual UNROM dev cart . I won't pull the old one apart for the time being though, in case there's any other projects I can try with it. If the MMC1 just wasn't such a narrow pinout, I'd try putting the...

lol not if I need to use those four pins. I guess it'd be okay to fold them outwards from the socket and solder wires on the tops, then put tape or something on the board to keep them from coming into contact with it. It'd be better to use either 28-pin eeproms (and sockets) or a board with 32-pin c...

Tracker file formats
First up, when looking for some way to create music or sounds for the NES, all I found on the main nesdev page was NT2. And while it seemed to be a pretty decent program overall, the sound would get choppy on me sometimes. I also thought the lack of copy/paste to be a shortcoming. Not to mention, th...

I'm still curious to see if I can get an UNROM version to run on the hardware sometime, just for the heck of it. WRAM would be the first thing to try, which I want to implement anyway sooner or later. But if it comes down to a bus conflict, that shouldn't be hard to test for/fix either. I figure inv...

Good points, I forgot to mention that I used one of those cheap little dual-clamp things with the magnifier and such. I tried putting extra solder on the power pin though, but it just wouldn't budge. But the ground came out on the first try! Now the problem is trying to squeeze two 32-pin sockets in...

Welp, I just managed to remove the PRG chip from that Dragon Warrior board totally unscathed, board as well. The secret? Heating from the top, sucking from the bottom. I know, that's probably a totally noobie suggestion, but that split second it takes to move the iron away and put the sucker in plac...

I should have mentioned I was referring to the Japanese version, which according to nesmapper.txt, is supposed to be UNROM. boardtable.txt apparently only shows the American version, which is MMC1. In any case, that'd make sense, if it's depending on WRAM to work. Though the next thing to work on wi...

That cart database is a million times better than mine. Though it's missing Bomberman 2, which I think I need to find out more info on. The irony here is that this is the game which caused me problems initially trying to run it on the NES, and prompted me to make my list, yet now that I was able to ...

I'll assume you can't run the air conditioner to save on electricity costs. But by the time you run a fan in every room and a radio to drown it out, you might as well run just the AC! I live with a few distracting/annoying family members, so I know how it is. In our case, the living room AC doesn't ...

I heard about it when looking up stuff about eprom erasers before and the safety of the UV light. Apparently the combination of it and oxygen can produce it. I dunno the details. But according to various newsgroup postings , maybe there's not anything significant produced. And I've seen other people...

I never could understand why some folks would cut legs and ruin the chips to get'em out, and now I know why. I was trying to take the SRAM out of my dead Dragon Warrior today, and found it's nothing as easy to remove chips as I thought. Granted, all I have is a push-button solder sucker, desoldering...
