I've always loved the US SMB2's music. The nice, dreamy, piano-like instrument used in a few of the tracks (notably the title theme, and most of the main overworld theme) was a marked improvement over the very boring square waves of Doki Doki Panic. It was just one of many nice touches that transfor...

Since Super Mario RPG uses the SA-1 chip, you'd have to hack up a Super Mario RPG cart in order to play it, which kinda defeats the purpose.

I've always wondered about that one...on a real console, and in modern emulators, it sounds like an electrical buzzing/crackling noise, but I swear some older emulators rendered it as a really low frequency hum (not sure if it was square or triangle).

If you do stick with Translhextion, beware that it *might* crash if you do certain things. Save your work before you do the following: - Switch to another window (this one can often be avoided by clicking somewhere in the file and scrolling up/down before you start typing) - Open a very large file -...

No, the Vs. version of Gradius does have an unusually long boot-up time. The first ~8 seconds are spent in a loop, doing nothing but reading $4017 over and over again. After that, it checks the ROMs, displays "GRADIUS ROM 1 OK ROM 2 OK," and then goes to the title screen. I think the initi...

FCEU hides them by *default*. I'm pretty sure he enabled them for that shot.

Could the exploding ship have anything to do with Konami's infamous copy protection? I don't know if this game has it, but some other games become either much more difficult (Yume Penguin Monogatari) or entirely unplayable (Kid Dracula; enemies and sprite platforms disappear at level 2) if they're t...

Do you a mean Sega Genesis adapter? Because I have one but not sure what model. Yes, a Sega Genesis adapter. It has to be the original model (1602 or 1602-1), though, the newer one (with the yellow tip, not sure of model number) is not compatible. Only the last (rare) revision of the Famicom had AV...

Congrats! :D

As for power, a Genesis 1 adapter (model 1602) is a very good match for either unit. I've used them with both my AV Fami and FDS for over a year without problems.

I'm quite certain it has nothing to do with RF, it exists to secure the consoles together. It *does* connect the RF shielding in the two units together, though. I verified this after examining a friend's setup that did have the plate. I remember getting really crappy RF output when my Sega CD was c...

Batman has one of the most amazing 2A03-only soundtracks I've ever heard. It was composed before Sunsoft started using DMC basslines, and instead uses some really great, heavy drum samples. Track 1 (level 1, US version) is a perfect example.

Re: Sega CD

Is that metal RF plate necessary for proper operation? or is it like the metal prongs on the 32X that don't really do anything? Probably not, unless you're actually using RF output. My Sega CD came without the plate, and it looks fine with AV cables (and even better through the 32X--it seems to hav...
