Anyone else having problems with Batman: Return of the Joker (FME-7) randomly locking up on a glitched screen? The first time, it happened shortly after I started the game, and the second time, I got through several stages before it happened. Both connectors are clean, and I haven't had the same iss...

Perhaps holding Select could scroll the rest of the currently-selected filename onto the screen? Sounds simple enough...

I have a 1GB card, and it's big enough to hold the important parts of the GoodNES set (clean ROMs and hacks/translations) with room to spare. If I need more space, I can always delete the ROMs that will never run on the PowerPak (i.e. games/demos that use more than 512K of either PRG or CHR), or the...

As long as those things are options that can be completely disabled (via the BIOS?), then I'm all for it. Blindly applying things like soft reset button combos to every game--even a simple button check in NMI--could easily break those that ride the bleeding edge of stability.

Owwies! Poor Famicom! ;_;

I remember when I was a stupid kid, I almost hooked up the AC adapter to the RF jack (the plug was broken, so I was attempting to tape the bare wires directly to the jack on the NES). Luckily I realized what the hell I was doing before I actually plugged it in... O_o

Atlantis no Nazo (J) pukes invalid characters into the Game Genie code list when I hit Reset, and they don't go away until I cycle the power. I think they're even being interpreted as codes, because half the time I try to start the game again, it just locks up. Attempting to change the characters us...

I finally fixed mine as well, though I used a slightly different method (works well if you only have physically large resistors): 1. Buy a small perfboard from Radio Shack. 2. Solder resistors to the board (100 ohm works for me). 3. Solder 16 pieces of very small-gauge wire to the resistors (I used ...

Grah, I HATE soldering. Either the stuff doesn't melt, or it balls up and doesn't stick. >_<

Maybe I'll just wait for a recall or software fix...

That is the exact same corruption I get about every other time I power on my AV Famicom. It only shows up in the BIOS when switching directories or loading games, but it affects all games equally. One power-cycle usually gets rid of it, though.

I replaced the connector with a new one last year, so I know its not a dirt/fatigue issue. That and the fact that I have no problem with all my other carts. Same here. I don't believe it's a connector issue, something physically different inside certain NES consoles isn't playing nice with the Powe...

I can assure you, the glitches I've experienced are not due to dirty connectors. I cleaned each console and reseated the PowerPak several times, with identical results.

Darker video on AV Famicom?

Is it normal for an AV Famicom to have slightly darker video output than a US toaster NES? I seem to recall reading that Japan's NTSC is slightly different than US NTSC (different black level?), but I just wanted to make sure. (not that I really mind, the darker colors seem to produce a consistently...

I should say, none of the games I tested ever crashed. I guess I missed the ones with data in CHR-ROM. :P

Speaking of which, how exactly is data pulled from CHR-ROM? My NES hardware knowledge is still somewhat limited...

As I posted in the "problem games" thread, different consoles seem to handle this cart differently. What causes it, though? Slight voltage or timing variations? remo, what's the serial number on the bottom of your NES? I have a toaster that exhibits very similar glitches, and I wonder if t...

I have tested this on several consoles, and each one exhibits a different variety of glitches, ranging from very minor to very severe: Toaster NES 1 (serial # N12597170): severely corrupted graphics and screen layouts in both BIOS and games. Completely unplayable. However, I did get it to boot once,...
