For the NES, an inexpensive option would be to get an original Xbox and soft-mod it, which is free and doesn't require any mod-chip. Then install MednafenX-NES. It has better game compatibility than NOAC based clones, but it is still not as accurate as Nestopia... and definitely no replacement for a...

well, I forgot to mention I use a Mac and the current Mac OS X emulators (that I'm aware of) are less accurate than NOAC, I guess you PC guys have it a bit better. Nestopia is one of the most accurate NES emulators for the PC. Nestopia is easily more accurate than your NOAC based systems, and it ha...

As for the glitches in Zelda and River City Ransom, I was never a fan of either one, if I want to play a brawler its TMNT 4: Turtles in Time or Streets of Rage 2 for me, I can barely to stand to play any others after playing those two perfect examples of the genre. So yeah, I can see why people wou...

thanks guys, thats some pretty good info, I guess most of them just decided 97% compatability ain't bad, especially once you consider the broken games are crap for the most part (Castlevania III and TMNT III are the only ones that I would want to play, and I'm not even sure TMNT III is incompatible...

Maybe RetroZone stepping in. Though the dream of a traditional copier is even better. Something like the CopyNES combined with the PowerPak, all in the form factor of a Game Genie shaped device that didn't require modification of your NES or Famicom :)

#1: Every single flaw in the design of common Famiclones like the the NEX and Yobo is not known. That would be like asking of a detailed explanation of every flaw in the Windows operating system. A few problems have been figured out in detail, but nobody wants to spend the time debugging a crappy pi...

I bought the new NES-to-USB adapters from Retrozone, and they work great. The only problem I have with them is that it can be hard to get the NES controller cable to plug into the adapter because the fit is so tight. So it really isn't a problem, though as it probably needs to be tighter than the NE...

Is a Cart Description Language (CDL) feasible?

A while ago, kyuusaku brought up the idea of a file format for dumping NES carts into, which was based on a hardware description language (HDL). Since so much effort is currently being put into creating hardware descriptions of mappers, for use with the PowerPak, I thought that I would bring up the ...

I just played the recently released Neotonix ROM. That game could really be awesome with a little more work. Why stop when the game is that near completion?

Is your NOAC the FPGA NES or did you redesign a NOAC from scratch in hopes of seeing ASICs made? Have you had a chance to check out the NES PowerPak?

What is kevtris's take on the NES PowerPak? I'd love to hear his critique on the hardware and its mapper support, especially considering that he did a similar thing with his FPGA NES. Maybe he could even help give tips on adding support for some of the more difficult, obscure, and obtuse mappers.

Didn't the same thing happen with regards to ripping game CDROM images? You have to do a bit-for-bit cloning of a CD, in order to get around certain forms of copy-protection, which purposely circumvent the CDROM standard. It is no surprise that a 1980s technology like FDS games would break the disk ...

If bunnyboy makes a new printed circuit board that fixes this problem, then doesn't that make all of the current carts ultra rare prototypes?

Then what mapper should new games target? And I'd rather not be stuck with A*ROM/B*ROM, which Squeedo is closest to, because of DPCM limitations. Why not design a very powerful mapper that is inexpensive to produce, easy to emulate in both software and FPGA, and then use that? I mean, why write gam...
