27c160 to 36 pin SNES bus daughter PCB's avalible

Post by nintendo2600 »

Hey All,

A friend and I got these boards made up to make 2MB games alot
easier to build so you don't have to have a zillion wires all over
the place. Just burn your your 27c160 drop it in this bad boy
and solider it onto your choice snes pcb. Saves alot of time
and hassle and makes a much cleaner final project.

$4 each or 10 for $35.

Here's another option for 2MB and it uses new, in-production parts rather than obsolete EPROMs, though the tradeoff is that it requires surface-mount soldering abilities...

And a TSOP adapter for your programmer (which I don't have). With 27c160's being so cheap and readily available
I got this board made to save myself alot of time and troubles wiring by hand which I did for WAY too long. Myself
I use 27c160's alot with working with sega machines also so it's handy that way too as I can use the eproms for
multiple platforms now with ease.

Just wanted to throw it out there in case anyone else wanted some as I got a good number of them made
cause I know over time I'll end up using them all myself even if I don't end up selling any off to other peoples :)

And your correct soldering surface mount chips especially with that many legs is a real PITA compared to fat DIP package legs :)

And this is another way too. Except the roms can be socketed for easy swapping. And it all fits in the cart shell too. Can be 1,2,3 or 4 mbytes. 3 or 4 - the roms would have to be stacked.

Yeah, but those PCB's will cost a lot more due to their large size...

True, but none can be socketed except this one and still fit in the cart shell..... And mine is capable of 4 mb. The others are just 2.

How much do you charge per board? I would be intrested.

@ Markfrizb, I’m interested in buying this PCB. Despite the huge size, I think it provides enough comfort for a 4MB rom. When we’re going to mod something, why not get the best out of it. Can you please give us some more details or the schematic perhaps so that we can see what we can port with this PCB? Also, you said this PCB can be socketed and will still fit in the cartridge slot. Have you got any pics of this so that we can see how much clearance there is?

If the board is that big why not just make a complete new board and use the parts from your donor pcb to populate the custom board? you could add more eeproms on there and keep it roughly the same size and cost would be the same more or less.

2 EPROMs stacked one on top of the other in a socket, cart shell closes.

Video is real crap, but here it is.... http://youtu.be/a_OEUKEEs_E. It shows sockets +EPROMs stacked in shell.

This was a very early design and I don't really use it anymore as I've progressed to smt chips, tsop's, etc...
I haven't made my own board (yet) but maybe I will. I don't really need a new board.

On a side note, I saw your posts about the FX.

If this adapter is mounted in place of the mask rom with headers, then the above post is true.

However, if you mount it to a cart (hi or lo rom style- doesn't matter) like this, then 2 roms is all that will fit. It barely fits with sockets ... Barely.

But this is the least amount of work. Instead of removing the mask rom, just use its existing pin legs, trim the mad 1 and SRAM pin legs close to the board, cut CE leg on mask rom and tie it high. You're done! Well, add your 2 roms. So mounting it this way limits how many roms you can use. -- 2.

That custom FX board looked really impressive but it still uses a real FX chip, I was seeing if there was a clone so it can be replaced in custom boards without getting a donor.

AFAIK, there is no clone of this chip.

From me. I make them.

Edit: the author of this post made the 27c160 adapter pcb. (Nintendo2600).

I made the FX adapter and the 27c080 EPROM adapter.
